The last two books I read were The First Fowler (which I posted my thoughts on here on this blog, if you scroll back a ways — TL;DR, I enjoyed it, and Helmer is the best) and The Return of the King (reread), which is obviously excellent. Fellowship is still my favorite in the trilogy, but Return is magnificent. Also, I had forgotten about Beregond, and now I'm kinda like . . . this man needs more love, because he's pretty great.

I read The First Fowler last night, so we're almost through the series! It's just Ember's End and The Archer's Cup left now.

Some thoughts on The First Fowler:

Jo and Emma being friends, or becoming friends, makes me happy.

It's a really weird feeling to jump back in time like this, but it's also fun to play the "I know something you don't know" game with the characters. And seeing what really brought about the Fowlers (and getting an explanation of why Heyward was in them) was fun.

Lots of good moments in this one, despite its being so short, so I won't list all my favorites.

I confess that I have absolutely no idea how the contraption in the climax was supposed to work — I know they explained it, but I'm still confused. The climax was cool anyway.

Have I mentioned lately that Helmer is one of my favorite character? Because I really love him. (I know it's Jo's book; he's great too.)

So, yeah. Not a lot to say otherwise. If all goes well, we start Ember's End tonight!
