The First Token

“I quite approve.”
The voice continued to drift about lazily in the air, no discernible source. Reynaud wasn’t visible, but he was there. He was in the other realm, watching Dee from where he was. He could manifest behind or beside the man if he wanted, but not yet. Not just yet. He wasn’t done. As he continued to work on his own project, he ran his thumb over the smooth, oval stone. “Durability,” he said, “is going to make this last. Zhe metal you choose is important because it is in direct relations to your personality and preferences. It is very much a part of you due to your choice.”
The words lingered in the air for a moment. Perhaps Dee could glean information, just from what he said, as to who it was for. But with a brush of an invisible hand against his cheek, any doubt could be swept under the rug.
“Yes. Zhe special person who is receiving my gift... is you.”
He watched for the tinkerer’s reaction. Just how would he react to this bit of knowledge? Did he know what he was getting?
