As much as I liked the concept of a post-apocalyptic, submarine hotel, this movie just didn't do it for me. I know it's a very silly concept, but I would have liked it a lot more if they treated it just a little more seriously. I really didn't expect the direction the plot took, and I can't say I was a big fan of it.
Everything about this was extremely British, from the use of tea as a currency, to the dry, dark sense of humour. There were a few amusing moments, but generally the whole thing felt like it was trying too hard to be quirky and funny.
The premise, set design, and costumes were interesting enough to grab my attention, but with the story being confined to the inside of the sub, and the complete lack of explanation for the world outside it, the movie had to rely too heavily on the crime thriller plot that simply wasn't very compelling.
Oh, and whenever anyone was outside, their dialogue was heavily muffled by gas masks. I could barely understand a word of it. It certainly didn't help that the version I watched had no subtitles for some reason.
Cool concept, underwhelming execution. Decent enough though.

Saw my third movie of the STL International Film Festival. Turns out it was apparently the world premier of the movie. Going to highly recommend The Fitzroy if you want a black comedy set on a submarine in the 1950s. Has love, murder, gas masks, chickens, and a headless doll ventriloquist show.
The Fitzroy title sequence.
