RWBY AMV: “Handlebars”

New video! Been a minute.

Not to be PoliticalTM on this blog or anything, but as an American, I’d been thinking about this song for a while and decided I wanted to make a video out of it, seeing as it therefore applies quite well to RWBY.

I also decided to mess around with audio mixing in this video! I don’t have the best software for it, but I think it makes the point just fine. In addition, this video contains some footage from the teaser trailer, so go watch that first if you haven’t seen it yet!

u should never sing a song lyric incorrectly around @homocidalcrocodile bcuz she will Post about it every 6 months or so for eight years after the fact. No Handlebars is a perfectly average song but I’ll never be able to move on past “me and my friends are platypus” thanks to her

genius annotation. okay this is 2012 and it's the flobots but if they are bringing him up, what's up. like is the song then *about* Bin Laden Jesus parallels & are they saying something on that or just gesturing at it

i feel like a number of their songs leave me wondering what they're saying or if they're trying to posit a certain stance or moral at all

still insane about the band The Flobots, they make a popular song, Logan Paul makes a shitty remake and changes some of the lyrics to be really sexist, they respond with an honest to god diss track ("i'ma take this opportunity to remind you that theres another stage after puberty") and a lawsuit, WIN THE LAWSUIT, and Logan Paul's only response after being questioned after the fact is to pull the "who's that" card like they didn't just sue him for around a million dollars

The Flobots - Handlebars This song about power, corruption and the potential that lies in one individual first appeared on an independent EP in 2005 (as "Handle Bars"), and was re-released on the band's major-label debut Fight with Tools two years later. This song is about the life of a dictator. It starts with the dictator as a young child learning how to ride a bike without handlebars. In the end, the boy is all grown up and has taken over the world.

MC Jonny 5 (a.k.a. Jamie Laurie) told MTV News: "The song is about the idea that we have so much incredible potential as human beings to be destructive or to be creative. And it's tragic to me that the appetite for military innovation is endless, but when it comes to taking on a project like ending world hunger, it's seen as outlandish. It's not treated with the same seriousness. The lyrics came to me as I was riding a bike home from work with my hands in the air - I had just learned how to do it - and I felt triumphant, but at the same time, I knew there were people at that moment who were being bombed by our own country. And I thought that was incredibly powerful. We have these little moments of creativity, these bursts of innovation, and every time that happens, that innovation is used to oppress and destroy people. So it struck me as beautiful and tragic at the same time."

Amazing song. It’s been said before, but tumblr should really love the Flobots. They’re pro- all the right things, and hiphop + viola is an amazing thing.
