Okay but like now I need to know. Is he tall or is he short? Am I climbing this man or suffocating him with my boobs by hugging him??? Conflicting info everywhere. I need to know this for my nightly creation of romantic scenarios. He is one of the characters on the list of yes sir thank you for punching me. I need to know if it's a grumpy gremlin of a man having to climb ME to snap my neck or a tall man stomping me to death. Please reply posthaste this is important.

he is a short man, my friend. the only reason he is perceived as tall is because harry is even shorter than him.

What if Snape is actually short but wears platform boots so nobody knows, they just think he had a growth spurt over the summer one year?

Adding to the height discourse: I'm 99% confident Snape was at least of average height. If Snape was short, the text would've gleefully mocked him about it. Rowling doesn't shy away from describing Snape's big nose, greasy hair, and yellow teeth, all of which are considered unattractive by society. Short men are also judged as unattractive and not masculine enough. No way JKR would've hesitated in making fun of Snape's height in canon if he was below 5'9" (175.3cm), the average for English men.

the text would have mocked him had harry not been shorter. in fact i don’t think there are many characters who can be considered tall in the main cast. therefore snape’s short height wouldn’t be noted

Snape is short, thin, sallow/pallid, looking like 'a plant that's been kept out of the sun' or however that line went, because neglect and malnutrition are a b*tch. He's not much healthier as an adult because of stress/poor coping methods/lack of having been taught how to take care of himself (or maybe he doesn't really think he deserves to take care of himself which is a whole other topic.) Anyway Snep is short.

The knowledge that Snape is only about 4'8 is glorious. Him getting mad is like being threatened by a chihuahua. He can so easily get through crowds, he has so many places he can duck into a hide. He is smol but will still kick your ass. I love it.

bringing back the height discourse: narcissa is described as tall. in spinners end, severus is said to be looking down at her (not just as she’s kneeling, but standing too). thus, snape is TALL.

narcissa was described as tall by harry who is very short because he was malnourished. thus snape is short
