I am eight episodes into The Heir (家业) and every single frame that the grandfather is in I am barely holding back tears because I love and ache for him so much. They’ve just reintroduced the male lead and I had to go take a walk around my apartment because he was making me so feral. This show is going to fucking kill me.
Also anybody curious about the aesthetics of gay little Southern Chinese poets needs to check this out because this is the ancient China of my childhood.
The first episode of The Heir has some lovely visuals.
A bit too blue/orange in the production design for my taste but I like how the desaturation and restrained camera movement of the cinematography gives it grounded realism. The detail and texture in the costumes and sets are gorgeous too.
I had no expectations going into The Heir but I really enjoyed the first four eps.
That fam is awful to the Eighth Branch and should go DOWNNNNN, I find ink making interesting, and it does not feel in the least preachy (a rarity) and while it's very heroine centric and will feature out FL triumphing in business, it does not feel girlbossy in a shrill ridiculous way (also a rarity.)
