Un Poquito de Ayuda
A/N I can confidently say that I have no idea what the fuck I am doing and I am so sorry for htat.
Pairing: Marcus Moreno x reader
Plot: You, an Avenger, go across the coutnry to assist Marcus Moreno, a heroic, when they face tech problems. That’s right people, it’s the shittiest cross-over of the century and I may totally delete this later.
W/C: 1,948
Warnings: Swears, mostly.
Marcus Moreno cleared his throat and smoothed down his tie. He checked his glasses for the hundredth time before cleaning them and placing them on his face once more. He wasn’t nervous per se, but being the welcome wagon always did make him feel a little awkward. Marcus had two stages of comfort when it came to work: working behind the desk, or, very, very seldomly these days, working out in the field. At this moment, waiting out on the helipad for the impending small talk made him wish some emergency came up instead.
A helicopter landed on the helipad and he held his tie down to keep it from further flapping in the wind. He slowly approached the opening door and saw just who he was looking for: you.
One leg followed the other as you went to step out, bracing yourself against the frame of the helicopter to watch your step. Marcus stuck out his hand to you, which you took happily and thanked him for as you landed on solid ground.
“Sorry about the sudden air arrival,” you apologized to him as you both walked away from your transport. “I flew in and I saw the traffic was absolutely insane, I didn’t want to keep you waiting.
“No, no, it’s okay. I appreciate the consideration. Marcus Moreno, it’s nice to formally meet you, Ms. Stark.”
Grinning, you shook his hand and nodded, “Likewise, big fan of your work!”
“Really?”
“Yes! The whole magnetic hand thingies with the katanas? Oh, that’s just amazing. A very sexy murder vibe,” you explained very casually, missing how the man blushed slightly as you two walked into the building.
“Oh, uh, thank you. I enjoy your nature powers as well, they’re incredible.”
You grinned and glanced at him over your shoulder, “Thank you. I used them to win a costume contest one year as Poison Ivy.”
“That feels like cheating,” He smiled.
“Un poquito,” you nodded. “Thank you for letting me come in today, by the way. I can’t imagine it’s very comfortable having someone barge in like this after a massive hack and power outage like that.”
“I wouldn’t say you barged in,” he began. “But Syndrome’s attack on our servers revealed a major gap in security in our servers that I had no idea even existed. We were only able to get online just a few hours ago.”
“I heard.”
Marcus nodded, “The Avengers heard all the way out over in New York, did they?”
“We did, yes,” you added. “Our groups have to look out for each other, and I’m kind of the leading expert in tech security.”
He nodded as he led you into an elevator, “I’ll take you down, then, to have a look. And thank you again, Ms. Stark. Your help is certainly a welcome surprise.”
“You can call me Y/N,” You grinned. “And I’m happy to help, really. Gets me out of the tower, too.”
“Oh?”
“My father’s working on a new suit design with Dr. Banner. They’ve blown up three prototypes. I’m losing my patience with them,” You shrugged.
He chuckled, “I can think of a number of experiences like that just this week alone.”
You watched as he rubbed his eyes after lifting his glasses. You chuckled and leaned against the back of the elevator and patted his shoulder, “There, there, boss guy. I’m here to save the day.”
Suddenly the elevator started free falling. You screeched, your fingers digging into Marcus’ shoulder as the elevator fell for several seconds. All the while, he quickly wrapped his arm around you and held on tight to the railing with the other.
The elevator came to a screeching halt. You both lifted off the ground momentarily before landing with a thud. Marcus holding you helped you to not lose your balance. For a moment, the two of you stood absolutely still before slowly peeling apart from one another. Marcus’ phone rang, and he excused himself to answer it.
After a few seconds, he huffed. You two were in the pitch black elevator and everything sounded far too quiet, “We lost power. Again.”
“Oh, shit,” you muttered. “You know, dying in an elevator was not on my list today.”
“It’s okay. Don’t worry. We’re perfectly fine. The emergency brakes are in place. This elevator is locked in now. We’ll be fine. Look, I can get these doors open and we can climb out.”
Marcus took all of two steps before the elevator shook. This action made you screech. Dropping your purse on the floor, you used both hands to grab the railing, “Touch that fucking door, Moreno, and I will end you.”
He froze, “Y/N, the great Flora, doesn’t like elevators?”
“I don’t like being stuck in elevators. I’ve watched Mythbusters. I know how this goes. I can take an elevator just fine but this part? This part I do not like!”
Marcus tried not to chuckle. he really, truly did. It just amazed him. You two had such strange and dangerous jobs, but you drew the line at climbing out of an out-of-service elevator?
“Are you laughing?” You gasped. “I came here porque you guys needed un poquito de ayuda, and now I’m gonna die for my niceness.”
“You must be stressed if you’re code switching,” He mused as he slowly made his way back over. You hadn’t realized he was back beside you again until you felt his hand covering yours on the railing. “Okay. I’m sorry. You’re right, you’re right, I’m being mean.”
“Totally,” you muttered. “Just very, super rude.”
He bit the inside of his cheek to successfully cover a laugh this time, “I won’t touch the elevator. We can wait for someone to get us. Okay?”
“Yes. Preferably, the power comes back on and we land on a floor, not in between floors, and we can walk out. Or crawl out.”
“You had a bad experience with elevators, didn’t you?”
“I haven’t used an elevator in Washington, D.C. in I don’t know how long, to be honest.”
He nodded, “Okay. Well, then, Y/N. What should we do?” He asked, then paled, “Oh, god. Wait. That sounded like I was propositioning you. I'm sorry. I didn’t mean for it to sound that way— not that you’re not beautiful, because you absolutely are, but this is a stressful time and you’re vulnerable and afraid and so I —“
“So you think I’m beautiful?” You cut off his ranting and chuckled, “You’re pretty too, Marcus.”
He laughed nervously and cleared his throat, “Um, so, read any good books, lately?”
He could practically feel how disappointed in him his daughter would be for starting with that line.
“Actually, yes.”
You and Marcus passed the time by talking about books, to start. You shared your favorites and why they were your favorites, along with other book recommendations. The conversations then steered into books that went to the big screen, and when Marcus mentioned how many times he had to watch Twilight, you laughed loudly which made him grin.
“I was an adult when those movies came out. It was both the best and the worst thing to happen to me. I loved those disasters so, so much,” you confessed. “Although, now that I’m even older, I’m feeling like I’ve become Charlie, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.”
“Charlie?” Marcus laughed, “Better than being Renee, right?”
You gasped, “Thank you. Fucking awful mother, right?”
“Can’t say I enjoyed her parenting styles,” he confessed. “I also read the books because of my daughter.”
“That’s sweet,” you said quietly. “My dad thought I was kidding when I said I was going to go see the movies. We turned it into a drinking game.”
“Yeah, I can’t really do that with Missy.”
“I’d hope not, she sounds fairly underaged.”
“Un poquito,” he joked.
The two of you continued your conversations in peace, finding that you both got along very well. As you two were talking and time went on, you ended up digging into your bag and splitting one of your snacks with him. You both split a bottle of water and you were very casually enjoying yourselves for awhile.
Suddenly the elevator doors open. You held a hand over your eyes as a flashlight blinded the two of you. Behind the blinding light was Tech-No who was accompanied by Miracle Guy.
“What are you two still doing in here?” Miracle Guy asked as he stared at you both.
“Yeah, the elevator’s been in service for, like, two hours now. Power’s out for the lights and stuff, but functionality returned. We texted you,” Tech-No looked to Marcus who was thankful it was too dark to see how red he had gotten.
“Oh,” he said quickly. “I, I guess my phone died.”
Not that you were mad about this at all. You quite liked your conversation with Marcus. It was fun, and easy, and you completely forgot why you were there in the first place.
Miracle Guy slowly smirked upon seeing you there, “Uh-huh. I bet. Ms. Stark, might I say —“
“Fuck off, I remember your DM’s,” you replied as Marcus helped you to stand up and gather your things. “Thank you, Marcus.”
“Of course,” He nodded. Marcus cleared his throat as the two of you left the elevator and stood under the gaze of his two teammates, “How about we head down to that server room, now? Maybe we’ll take the stairs.”
“Probably for the best, yeah,” you agreed.
Marcus led you away. The entire time he was wondering if you thought he was some big giant idiot for not realizing the elevator still had functionality. He wondered if you were regretting coming all this way to help them, and he wondered if this made him look like, well, kind of an idiot of a leader.
All the while, you were wondering if his two teammates could have possibly had better timing, because you really liked talking to Marcus. For awhile, you were distracted from how nervous you were about the elevator falling. But now you had to get to work, and you were wishing you were unable to do so.
Luck was on your side, because as you boys entered the server room and saw the chaos, Marcus realized something else was going on. He excused himself to speak to one of the techs for a moment while you watched the chaos unfold in front of you.
When he returned he sighed, “So, the emergency power has been drained and the servers are offline. Tech-No’s coming down to see what help he can offer to get something up and running for you.”
“Wow they are hitting you hard,” You murmured. “Hardware-wise, I’m not as good as my dad, but I know a few things. I can help out if I can get a really, really big cup of coffee first.”
Smiling a little, Marcus shoved his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. “Okay. How about I get you a really, really big cup and bring it back for you?”
Chewing on your lip, you rocked back and forth on your heels, “Maybe after I’m done here I can get you a really, really big cup of coffee too.”
He laughed in what seemed like pure disbelief. He was surprised you responded in such a way, and his laughter made you frown for a moment before he quickly picked up, “Oh, no, don’t— I mean— yes. Sorry, I was surprised, that’s all. Yes. Definitely.”
You beamed, “Okay. I guess later on it’ll be a Heroic and an Avenger walking into a coffee shop…”
