@rainrein - regarding this post, that is Samael (the bat, name only exists out of world) and Gabriel/The IS (the human(?)), who are the main PCs for my heart’s desire account! It’s a future thing for them, not currently canon yet bc Samael is still going through the ambition and Gabriel is still trapped in Parabola

The most basic lore breakdown is that Gabriel was the original guy who came down to the Neath back when London fell, and Samael was his reflection that gained awareness like 5 years ago and slowly became rogue as he grew disdain for being forced to mirror Gabriel.

Long story short, he decided he could be Gabriel better than Gabriel could be Gabriel. So he dragged the man through the mirror and took his place in the real world! Now he gets to be the real Gabriel, while the og guy is trapped in Parabola losing his entire mind (and being twisted by parabolan logic into a ‘reflection’ for Samael! Gotta stay balanced)

By the point of the image, Samael has evolved past the need to be Gabriel’s reflection and can go Bat Mode. And Gabriel has at least somewhat physically healed from being The IS- at least the arms aren’t eternally bleeding, anymore. Therefore. Neither of them are really the original, unchanged Gabriel, now. 🙂‍↕️

Even in safety, the IS cannot trust it. He physically, mentally, cannot fathom the idea that no harm will come to him in a moment. This is part of why, even in the safest place he could possibly be, he will always attempt to leave it.

#the IS #the other reason is that he’s constantly in the mindset of ‘I’m trapped’#and he hates nothing more than that. he wants out. so he constantly tries to ‘escape’#but of course this is also not trusting his safety in a way

The way Samael looks and the way The IS acts both pull very much from Gabriel’s particular experience of being kidnapped.

Both Samael and The IS having teeth and claws (because Gabriel is practically harmless without a weapon, and weapons can be taken), The IS not trusting food unless it can be thoroughly proven that it hasn’t been tampered with (because Gabriel was drugged twice during the entire circumstances around his kidnapping), The IS mindlessly trying to escape if he sees even a glimmer of a chance that he Could (because Gabriel hated being locked away and, more than anything, hates not having control over where he is and what he’s doing)

These are far from the only things motivating their looks and actions, but it’s a pretty big factor

The original man, Gabriel, lived (relatively) peacefully in the neath with his spouse, Sylas, for decades without an ambition. His reflection, however, began to gain a will of its own. And it did not like being stuck as the reflection, forced to mirror everything eternally

Some time within the last year, the reflection (we’ll call him Samael, but in-world he is just known as Gabriel) attacked Gabriel through the mirror, trapping him in Parabola and taking his place in the real world. And, over the course of the year, the line between who is the reflection and who is the reflected has blurred. Gabriel- now the IS- acts as a sort of reflection to Samael now.

Though, Samael does not have a true reflection of his own, on account of being parabolan in origin
