James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer, and bandleader. An originator of funk he is often referred to as the “ Godfather of Soul” in a career that lasted 50 years Brown got his start as a gospel singer he joined the r&b group The Gospel Starlighters.That eventually became the Famous Flames that was founded by Bobby Byrd and became the lead vocalist. In 1950, he gained notoriety to the public as a member of the Famous Flames with their ballads the group later became his backing band known as the James Brown Band they were known for the hit ballads,Please, Please, Please” and “ Try Methe group capitalized on Brown’s reputation as a tireless live performer. His success continued in the 1960s after his now infamous live album Live at the Apollo that had a number of hit songs. During the 70’sBrown sound moved into what was the early stages of funk music. He was noted with the song “ Say It Loud” that had social commentary that In 2013, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He helped make the shape and refine several genres of music. He will be remembered as the “ hardest working man in show business” with the ability to dance, sing and act. James Brown is one of the most influential artists in music and was a fantastic entertainer.
