The irony of the Night in Nightless city being a night of celebration for the deceased heroes of Sunshot campaign but also being the night the clans deciding to go after and siege one of their biggest hero of said war while doing exactly what the Wens did to start said war (and worse) to the Wen Remnants.

You know thinking about how no one gave WWX any material help when he was at the BM got me thinking, why tf was WWX broke? He was an acclaimed cultivator, head disciples of one of the biggest sects main contributor of a war they won and he had zero savings???? I guess when he was a minor JFM would pay for all his things instead of giving him money but does this mean that JC never payed him????? He didn’t have something like a salary? Someone of his previous status should have had some savings but he didn’t so was he a fucking slave to JC working for free?? Is that what JC really wanted? A slave???

This is a really good point. I think you're right. As long as JFM was alive he was paying for the things WWX was getting around Lotus Pier :

He was young and this sounds like it was part of the enjoyment - and he probably got pocked money as he needed it- like when he went into the Cloud Recesses. The things is I doubt that changed when jc took over. I don't think jiang cheng would have proactively relinquished financial control over WWX, or that WWX would have ever even thought to ask him for something like that. I'm sure whatever treasure they got from the Wens WWX put right back into YunmengJiang Clan. He doesn't seem like the type of person to take more than he's using or to hoard it. In fact he sounds like he quickly goes through what he has sharing it with everyone :

"Wei Wuxian bought a large assortment of knick knacks and other items in Caiyi Town, brought them back to the Cloud Recesses, and divided and handed them out to the other junior disciples." (chapter 18)

"When Lan Wangji descended from the inn, he saw Wei Wuxian sitting on the stairs, distributing baozi to the children gathered around him. (Chapter 32)

“You have to show people your thanks when you’re asking them things, right? I wanted to give them money, but they were too scared and didn’t dare to take it. It seemed like that they really liked the scent of the rouge. They had probably never used such a thing before, so I gave it to them.”

But I’m not like how I used to be, when I always had a ton of flowers and jewelry on me to give the girls. I really don’t have anything else to give them. Interestingly enough we get a glimpse into WWX's careful nature when he and jc are on the run after the Wens attacked:

“He had often tucked spare money into corners of his clothes, and now it became of use—at least he had money to buy things. Walking around, he bought a bunch of food, especially dried ones to eat on the way. (Chapter 59)”

So it would be safe to assume he probably had some money on him when he took the Wens to the Burial mounds, but not enough to feed 50 people and certainly not for any extended amount of time. Ofc at that point jiang cheng wouldn't have given him anything he had back at Lotus Pier, and since he left without knowing he would never return he wouldn't have taken anything...

He also seems surprised when he finds out the jade token works to get money, so it's doubtful he ever had an equivalent in Lotus Pier.

Oh, right. HanGuang-Jun, I’m out of money. Give me a bit more, won’t you?”

Lan WangJi, “Simply take the jade token to withdraw the money.”

Wei WuXian let out a muffled laugh, “Apart from letting me in and out of the barrier, that jade token you gave me… can also let me draw money?”

Does Jiang Yanli love WWX? Ive seen the argument she'd save him because she love him but I disagree that I think in her eyes Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng rank above WWX in her eyes.

I figured I would answer this before I went to bed (otherwise it would haunt me).

Does Jiang Yanli love Wei Wuxian?

The simple answer is, yes, she did love Wei Wuxian. BUT, a very big point of the work itself is, that despite all of these people he himself had grown to love unconditionally as he grew up with them, is that each one of them always picked someone, or something, else first.

For Jiang Fengmian he ultimately picked his Sect's survival over loving Wei Wuxian when he chose to tell him to protect Jiang Cheng, instead of telling him to take care too like his child.

Jiang Cheng picked his jealousy and hate over his love and a chance at keeping a family and Wei Wuxian at his side like a brother/confidant and chose to see him as a useful tool until he became a burden more than a help.

Jiang Yanli had already made her choice to give up Wei Wuxian and that love when she married. (There's also the underlying traditional views of Confucian thinking there where the wife is assimilated as a daughter and wife into the husband's family and expected to from early birth betrothals but that is a very very long topic!) So in a sense, it was socially acceptable for her to not have put more thought into what would happen to Wei Wuxian, or rather no one expected her to on a social important level. You can even see this in Wei Wuxian's thinking with not holding ill will and still easily calling her Shijie after he is resurrected.

Their love in the long run was never focused unconditionally on Wei Wuxian, and yes even Jiang Yanli. Lan Wangji is the outlier of unconditional love despite social barriers because they view the other on equal terms as others before them were heavily politicized in their love and relationships.

I guess they don't just relate to jiang cheng they've decided to become jiang cheng. They do understand taking in an orphan off the streets, which is what Jiang Fengmian NOT jc or his shitbag of a mother did, doesn't mean that orophan is then meant to be an obedient servant to jc for life?
