Bound by a past severed by tragedy, reincarnation reunites two wandering souls to grant them a fragile second chance.
“Lan Zhan, where are you? I’m… I-I’m here! Lan Zhan!”
There is only silence.
He shouts his throat hoarse, calling out again and again, until suddenly he’s pulled forward, arms wrapping around him in a familiar tight embrace, and his eyes immediately starts to water.
“Found you…” the voice whispers, resounding exhaustion but not without relief.
Clutching tightly at broad shoulders, he doesn’t let go. He’ll never let go. Not ever again. Not even when he feels the lingering of fingers brushing against the back of his neck before the warmth of soft lips desperately captures his own.
The Untamed's Funniest Moments, Ranked
My second favorite part of the Untamed is the comedy. My favorite part is, of course, the romance. My third favorite part is its exploration of major themes, such as sibling relationships, the meaning of family, the treatment of POWs, the responsibilities of the individual, collective responsibility, etc.
I love clever jokes, so here are Chén Qíng Lìng's funniest moments, as decided arbitrarily by me:
Wei Wuxian reciting the Lan precepts in the Wen detention camp to Wen Chao is absolutely hilarious. WWX is not only creative and a genius, he's also one funny SOB. (No offense to Cangse Sanren, of course, who was apparently a badass in her own right.) This is the absolute funniest part of the series, especially since it was set up so well. You can't fully explain the glory of this joke without explaining a good part of the plot of the first dozen episodes, which is why it's so good. WWX's warm-up routine?? Unparalleled. Wen Chao's being over it before WWX even starts?? Perfectly done. The main characters reactions? Chef's kiss!
"You like MiAnMiaN." I believe no further explanation is needed. If you've watched the Untamed, you know exactly when and where this line was uttered and to whom. Did I say WWX is a genius?? He's also an idiot. And Lan Wanji's expression?? Priceless.
The Ghost General freeing the juniors with Suibian. This was clearly a setup by WWX, who does have that genius for comedic timing whenever he's not fighting for his or other people's lives, but it's still hilarious due to the gap between people's expectations and reality. It's funnier because it's clever. It plays on one of the main themes of the Untamed: reputation.
What were your top three funniest moments from CQL?
While I'm here...
I just want to state my unpopular opinion #1,576:
I prefer Chén Qíng Lìng to Módào Zǔshī.
