The Jutul family dynamic is actually fascinating to me because like, Fjor and Saxa definitely have a dynamic that lends itself to a sibling vibe, but they also have canonically portrayed a husband and wife pairing in the past, at least as recently as the 1960's, and Ran and Vidar would have been portraying siblings at that point, and there is also the chance that the dynamics in the family have swapped around (Fjor and Ran playing husband and wife, etc), not to mention the fact that with each swap of roles within the group, the power is held by either Vidar or Fjor, so the power dynamics also shift pretty routinely, but also everything is put to a vote between the four of them so it has a vaguely democratic feel... it just makes me so curious what they all are to each other? How do they see each other, what are the actual power dynamics within the group, what did it start as and how did it get to this point?
The Jutul's are so fascinating. Like, the reincarnations of the gods into the bodies of modern people is a really interesting concept but the fact that the Jutul's were THERE, during Ragnarok, have been around for millenia... they used to be worshiped, they have walked the earth since Gods were real... and now they're... running a Fortune 500 company and going to high school, running around in the mountains naked eating reindeer hearts and handling their problems through single combat? What is UP with these weirdos, its fascinating I'm obsessed.
About: Having an argument with Fjor and later on getting into trouble that leads to much more than an apology.
Warnings: swearing, insulting, mentions of sex
A/N: Hi sweethearts ☺️ I'm getting back on track with my writing. My masterlist link isn't working so I'll try my best to fix it soon. Feel free to send in requests, I'm open to your ideas. Enjoy another Fjor fic 🙈
Ps: I had to turn it into two parts, because I got stuck at the ending and need some time to make the story as much realistic as I can.
Having a best friend was an amazing thing. Especially, when said friend was there through thick and thin. Having someone to have your back no matter in how much trouble you get, being able to trust someone with your biggest secrets and knowing that by the end of the day there'll be someone to wipe your tears.
Fjor was that someone for (Y/N). Since the moment they were paired up for a project during first year at school. There was something in the girl that drew him in. For anyone else she was nothing but another student, but his eyes still seemed to land on her. Fjor was getting more curious with each study session. So when they got they grade back he still intended on sticking around.
(Y/N) was no different. She noticed the mysterious boy before the project. He held himself with so much pride and power, that she couldn't stop herself from admiring him. Even if something deep down told her not to get involved, that it might be too much for her, she still tried to be his friend.
It was an unlikely friendship. Seemingly different people getting along so well. There were ups and downs, but nothing was able to break them apart. After times and times of Saxa trying to scare the girl off she gave up. Both girls tolerated each other, since both were a part of Fjor's life.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" Fjor asked sprawled on (Y/N)'s bed. The said girl was browsing through the Internet bored.
"I'm going to meet up with Magne." She mumbled opening up another tab.
"Magne?" She could hear the dark tone in her best friend's voice. Turning around (Y/N) noticed that Fjor sat up with his jaw slightly clenched and there was a certain emotion in his eyes she couldn't decipher.
"Yes. I promised I'd show him around town a bit." Ever since the Seier family moved in she had to share her free time between Fjor and new boys. Magne and Laurits became her friends. It just happened. Laurits was funny in her eyes, some times a bit too blunt but still nice. Magne was like a lost puppy, not really knowing what he should do, but overall kind and caring.
"Can't Isolde do that?" Fjor asked rolling his eyes and falling back on the bed.
"She's hell bend on digging up more dirt on your father. I'm trying to keep Magne away from that, as long as I can." (Y/N) explained with determination. She had enough of both Jutul siblings whining about Isolde, she didn't need them doing the same with Magne.
"Why do you care so much?" He huffed and (Y/N) sighted getting up and sitting on the bed. Fjor mirrored her position.
"Because he's new and lost. Laurits is social and doing great. Magne needs time to adjust and I guess I just want to help him. It won't be good for him to start anything with your father." It seemed enough of an explanation in (Y/N)'s opinion. It was enough of a reason to help Magne, she just wanted to do something nice once in awhile.
"And that's why you have to spend all your free time with him?" Fjor was getting more frustrated with each sentence and from experience (Y/N) knew it wasn't good. They did fight a bit, but she always got around it. Making sure their bond wasn't severed.
"I'm here with you now." Her tone turned soft, trying to easy the tension that began gathering.
"Yeah. Now." He scoffed getting up and started pacing before her.
"Fjor?" She reached out gently but he shrugged her off and set his glare on her.
"If you want to fuck him just go and get it over with." His words felt like a slap to the face. (Y/N) blinked up at him in shock. Few months back she realised that friendship turned into so much more from her side, but scared of ruining everything she kept quiet.
"It's not like that." Her voice broke from all the emotions she tried keeping at bay.
"Oh really? That's why you always look for him in the hallways. And why every time I'm trying to plan something with you, you're already out with him. You're like one of those lovesick teens sending him heart eyes every chance you get." His turned into a scowl and (Y/N) couldn't understand where did it all go wrong. She tried to be fair sharing her time.
"Please, Fjor. I can cancel if-"
"Don't bother." He cut her off. "I'm done sitting around at watching you drool over some overgrown idiot."
"What?" She growled getting up. Insinuating that she loved another boy was different. But insulting an innocent friend of hers was another story. "Magne's not an idiot. He's smarter than you think."
"Of course you'd protect him." Fjor shook his head with a grimace. "You're both worth each other you know."
"What happened to you?" (Y/N) frowned with sadness. "You're my best friend. I thought you would understand."
"I understand. Go and have fun running around like a whore." Fjor spat before storming out of her room.
His words rang in (Y/N)'s ears. She never though he could do something like that. They were so close, they went through so much and now he threw insults at her like she meant nothing. Her world felt like crumbling around her, and so she fell to her knees choked sobs leaving her throat.
I absolutely love the way Ragnarok shows that giants use modern forms of worship to maintain some level of their power, and how that looks. The implications of these immortal beings who used to be worshiped in the traditional sense having to adapt the way they appeal to humans in order to reclaim some level of the 'worship' in a more modern sense is so interesting, and the show does it so well!!!
So much of how they carry themselves is about ensuring that the people see them as “above them” in a way that offers them adoration, praise, and power. The head up the 5th most powerful company in Norway, but its not just about the money, its about the power it gives them, so much so that that their contributions to the Norwegian economy ensure that the government bends to their will. They are all beautiful in an almost unnatural way, which comes with obvious benefits in modern society, and they use that to sleep with the humans and to wield social power over them, which are both forms of "worship" in the modern sense. Even down to a more interpersonal level, in the way that Saxa and Fjor use their beauty, wealth, and social standing to gain the attention and popularity from their peers. Even things like Saxa singing to her classmates, which, if you watch the crowd and specifically Fjor, was clearly her using some form of magic on her peers, and the dance scene, which was them giving in to their more primal instincts, serve as a way to separate themselves from their peers and gain their attention and admiration.
Nothing the Giants do feels genuine to the situation they're in, but it does feel genuine to them and their goals and desires. They don't care about the petty goings on of the humans around them (aside from Fjor to a very limited extent), but they do care about how their responses affect them and their position in society. I don't think Fjor actually fully believes the stuff he was saying about the environment during his speech, and it really has very little effect on him or his family in the end. I think it was a combination of him wanting to get Gry's approval and to make her see him as the kind of person she wants to be with, but I also think he saw an opportunity to gain the favor of his peers in a very specific way. He's one of them, he is with them, he is wealthy and privileged and his family is powerful, but he chooses to stand with them. This is an opportunity for him to gain their favor, but as soon as it is no longer beneficial to him, once he has to avenge Vidar and has to reclaim the company and continue to run it, he reverts back to not caring. The Giants are so self focused, working constantly to ensure that they maintain a level of status and power over the people in Edda and Norway as a whole, and it's such a cool way to use these characters that have been established as immortal mythological figures who have been walking among the humans for centuries.
The Giants no longer have people sacrificing to them anymore, they don't have people making altars and giving offerings and worshiping them, but they have the modern equivalent. I really appreciate the way the show took these immortal, extremely powerful beings and made them petty and uncaring and totally focused only on their own personal gain. It feels completely right that a group of creatures like them would see the world this way and learn to manipulate it to keep themselves in the positions of power they've always held. It's a really cool way use of storytelling to subtly remind the audience who these beings really are, even if they look like regular people.
About: Being close friends with Fjor and hiding your true identity.
A/N: Hi guys! I'm so sorry for being inactive and making you wait so long. I'll be surprised if you're still around to read my fics 😅. About this request, anonim didn't pick a specific goddess, so I chose Hela. I though that it would be fitting that she hid her identity from Fjor, a titan ya know. I didn't really go into detail with her powers etc. because I want you guys to picture that on your own. Hope you'll like this one. I'm getting to work making other requests come true. Enjoy! 🥰
Edda's Secondary School. The place were I spend most of my life, yet I hate it the most. Why? Well, the first reason would be noisy teenagers with hormones pouring out like a waterfall. Second, my best friend's mother was our principal and a teacher. Wouldn't be so bad if she stopped sending me death glares every chance she had. And third one, Saxa. The princess of our school and Fjor's sister. I guess she inherited the hate from her mother. There wasn't a day were she went by without a comment thrown my way. Mostly I would simply shrug her off or not acknowledge her attempts to piss me off. But everyone's patience ends. And mine was barely there.
"You have the far away look." Laurits said while I stood beside him.
"Yeah, got lost in thoughts. Sorry." I send him an apologetic smile and started helping with his outfit.
Today was Constitutional Day. Thanks to Erik, both Laurits and me, wrote a roasting speech. About Ran. But Laurits went even further and turned himself in a lookalike. I had enough hate from her, so my name wouldn't be mention and I could blend in with the crowd. Some would say I was a coward, but I saw it as waiting for a better opportunity.
"Good luck out there." I patted his back and he huffed.
"I don't need luck. I'm already great." He winked before walking away and I shook my head smiling. He's a dork, whether he admits it or not.
"Another man walking away from you?" Saxa came up from behind and stopped beside me. I frowned looking to her.
"What that's supposed to mean?" I asked genuinely not knowing what she meant.
"Didn't you know?" She smiled her superior smile. "Fjor just left with Gry. Their going to spend this evening much more enjoyably." I turned my head the other way and blinked rapidly, so she wouldn't notice my teary eyes.
Yes, Fjor was my best friend since we began highschool. And yes, I did fall in love with him. It was slow and painful for me. I knew he was not the type to love. He was Fjor Jutul, the popular boy with beautiful girls around him. I was simply his best friend, a person that would stick by his side no matter the bullshit he would give me. I was in deep.
"He probably took her to the abandoned warehouse." I threw her a glare, but she only chuckled. "And here you are, believing you're so special."
I watched her walk away and take the seat next to her parents. They all looked my way, while my gaze fell on the empty chair reserved for Fjor. He wasn't there. Neither was Gry.
Not wanting to give them the satisfaction I tried to calmly walk away. I bit into my lip to stop the sobs that were threating to get out. How foolish was I? To think he would go for someone like me. And how much more pain will it take for me to realize there was no point in fighting for his heart to be mine.
"Sorry." I heard Magne shout out after he bumped my shoulder. There was no time to respond, since he kept on running away from school grounds.
I knew Magne was crushing on Gry. And I had an idea where he was headed. Although, his speed didn't much his posture. He was way to fast. Almost like...
"Not him." I whispered in a broken tone. "Not him, Magne."
I looked around to make sure no one was around before taking off after my other friend.
It was unusual to befriend both a Jutul and Seier. Since the moment Magne moved in there was a riff between him and their family. But how couldn't I become closer to him? He was quiet and collected. When met better he was easy going and really cared about people. He was the emotional support I needed.
I puffed out a breath after stopping in front of the warehouse Saxa told me about. There was a creepy vibe coming from it, but luckily for me I wasn't scared.
I wandered in and listened closely to pinpoint their whereabouts.
There was a faint sound of fighting. Small grunts and a feminine voice shouted in fright.
"Oh by Odin's name." I clenched my jaw and run to the place were I could hear them getting closer.
"Magne!" Gry shouted out laying behind him. My eyes fell to Fjor who was beat up and Magne standing over him with a hammer raised.
"Don't you dare!" My voice echoed off of the walls. A deeper and darker tone to it.
"(Y/N)." Fjor rasped out, but I didn't glance his way again. Maybe I was here to save his ass. Maybe I did love him. But right now I wasn't doing this for him. Magne couldn't live on with a life taken on his hands.
"You have no idea what's going on." Magne warned me while I cautiously took my place between both boys.
"I know more than you think." I said in slightly broken tone.
"What? If you do why would you protect him?!" He was pissed of with me too. I could see his anger levels rising.
"Because I know him, Magne. And I know you too. But it down, you don't want this." I begged taking a step closer to stop him if needed.
"I'll take you down too." He growled blinded by hurt and anger. Before his hammer could collide with my body I put my hand out grabbing it. Magne looked shock to our arms and tried pushing harder.
"I'm stronger. Stronger than you Magne. But I won't hurt you. Please, don't make me." I cried out knowing that if I used my powers he would not survive.
"Thor!" We all turned to see Vidar walking into the warehouse. He began taking of his jacket and Magne turned his back on us.
"He's gonna kill us." Fjor breathed out and I looked down to him. Gry backed up to stand slightly behind me.
"Get him up." I whispered to the girl and she nodded before helping Fjor.
"Run. Run!" Magne shouted to us adjusting his hammer. I send him an encouraging smile before the three of us bolted out of the building.
"There's the car!" Gry lead us to Fjor's car and he took out the keys.
"I'm driving." I said taking away the keys. Ignoring his glare Gry and I got in, while he made his way in.
"It's not true. It can't be." Gry chanted from the backseat and I sighted looking to the road. "What are you people?" Fjor grunted from the passenger side.
"Everything Nordic folk used to believe in." I explained throwing her a glance.
"Like Gods?" She asked panicked and I nodded.
"And much more." Fjor added holding his side with a painful expression.
"Where to?" I asked looking to Gry and she shook her head. "My place then." I took a sharp turn making Fjor hiss in pain. "I'm not sorry."
We drove the last few minutes in silence. Gry helped me get Fjor inside with many complaints from him.
"Stay in my room and don't touch anything." I send her a warning look before getting my best friend into the joined bathroom. He sat on the side of my bathtub while I got the first aid kit.
"How did you know where we went?" He asked before I began cleaning his cuts.
"Saxa." I answered shortly not meeting his gaze.
"What did she tell you?" Fjor sighted sadly and I shrugged.
"Enough." I said before helping him take of his shirt and seeing the forming bruise. "You think it's broken?"
"No. Just hurts." I nodded before applying some herbal ointment I made. "Why didn't you tell me?" His voice turned cold in a matter of seconds and I knew what he was talking about.
"It was safer that way." I murmured stepping away and began cleaning up.
"Safer?" He huffed in disbelief. "You really thing I would tell them?"
"Wouldn't you?" I hissed turning to glare his way. "Did you hurt me enough to prove that I wasn't your priority?"
"(Y/N)-"
"Don't. Don't you dare tell me I'm important. I won't believe you." I seethed before leaving the bathroom.
Gry was looking at my collection of books. She looked my way with question in her eyes. Most of my books were spell books or ones in Old Norse.
"Do I want to know?" She asked timidly.
"No." Gry nodded her head. She walked to my desk chair and sat down.
"Are you okay?" She asked and I eyed her carefully. Gry wasn't a bad person. Since I met her she was always kind. She did spend a lot of time with Fjor, but I couldn't blame her.
"I'll be fine. You?" She looked down sighting.
"I don't know. It's all so much." I walked closer to her and crouched in front of her.
"You have time. Don't try to understand it all at once. I was in this mess since I could remember and it took Magne sometime to get used to this. Don't rush." I patted her knee and she smiled lightly.
"I know it's weird... But will you help me?" Gry asked avoiding my gaze.
"I'll try." I nodded before we heard the bathroom door open. Fjor walked out stopping to look at us before walking to exit my bedroom. "Fjor?" I asked uncertain of his actions. Fear of being exposed to his family creeping in.
"I won't tell." He barked out with furry in his eyes. "I can't look at you. Not after what you did. Years (Y/N)! I was there for you through everything and you couldn't even tell me." Fjor shook his head in disappointment and slammed my doors walking out.
I felt tears flowing down my cheeks. The sobs followed soon and I broke down falling to my knees.
"It hurts." I choked out, while Gry kneeled beside me and started rubbing my back.
"Let it out." She soothed bringing me into her arms.
I would never think that one day I would break so much that the girl he chose over me would be there to pick the pieces. I would never believe if someone told me she would be the one to slowly put me back together.
I lost Fjor, my best friend and the guy I loved. The same night I lost Magne, the friend I didn't knew I needed so much. But I gained Gry as my friend. She was hungry of knowledge I had about the world she became a part of. She spend days and nights at my place. I was slowly collecting myself, while she studied at my desk. I gained faith in healing myself.
"(Y/N)." My father knocked stepping into my room. I looked up from the spell book. "Someone to you." I smiled thinking it was Gry, but my face went blank when Fjor stepped in.
"Hi." He gulped standing by the doors. And I nodded to father, so he could leave us alone.
"What is it?" I asked looking back to my book.
"I-i... I'm sorry." He stammered out and I frowned hearing it for the first time since meeting him.
"For what?" I prod looking up. He was still by the doors and I pointe him to the end of my bed, where he sat down.
"I shouldn't react the way I did. I just..." Fjor shook his head looking to his hands.
"You felt hurt." I suggested and he looked to me with plea in his eyes. "Don't worry. Spending time with Gry helped me forgive you. But I'm not sorry for keeping my identity hidden." I explained putting away my things and he smiled lightly.
"So all is forgiven?" He asked hopefully and I chuckled.
"Yeah, but never forgotten." I warned jokingly making him reach out to held my hand in his.
"I'm not planning on hurting you ever again." Fjor promised kissing my knuckles lightly. I cleared my throat to stop the blush.
"And your family?" I asked and his face changed to one of sadness.
"They won't be a problem either." He whispered out. I could tell something happened. Something big, but Fjor always shared when he was ready to. And only then. "They believe I'm on Magne's side. That I'm not worth living with them, that I'm a coward. Ran told me to get out and never come back."
"You're not leaving are you?" I choked out squeezing his hand.
"I have nowhere to go." He laughed painfully and I gulped down. Before I knew what I was saying the words left my mouth.
"Stay with me." Fjor looked up shocked. "You can stay with us. I'll take care of you."
"(Y/N), it's not a good idea." He started to get up but I tugged him down again.
"We're best friends. We don't let each other go. You can stay." I said with a voice full of emotions.
"Can we be more?" Fjor asked looking around my room and I felt the corners of my mouth stretching in a small smile.
"We'll see about that. You still have a lot to work on." We exchanged smiles like giddy children. It was nice, having him back and giving another chance to us. Maybe this time it'll all be better.
A/N: Hello! I'm sorry for the long wait, but the writer's block is killing me right now. Reader was meant to be Lady Sif, but I didn't want to make it obvious, neither did I wanted to make the feelings known. You can pick up on the subtle hints though. Let me know what you think! 💛
Living in Edda was tiring. It seemed to be a peaceful small town with great future ahead. But it was so much more. And not in the good way.
(Y/N) saw the destruction. She was aware of the shadows around every corner. But what was she supposed to do, a simple teenage girl?
"You're daydreaming again." (Y/N) blinked slowly coming back. Beside her was Oscar, a friend she knew since diapers.
"Sorry." She breathed out tiredly. "What were we talking about?"
"Gry is left with only Magne for the project." Hilde repeated with a challenging glint in her eyes.
"Good for him." (Y/N) kept her emotions in check. Although, it took every ounce of self control not to say hurtful words to Saxa's friend.
"Are you going to help them?" Fjor asked in an overly innocent voice. Their eyes met for fee seconds before she huffed and got up.
"I know when I'm not wanted." She nodded to Oscar, who wore an apologetic expression.
It wasn't his fault. But (Y/N) never got along with Hilde. It seemed that Jutul siblings liked to join in when the girl teased (Y/N). She wasn't mad though, just tired.
Her eyes fell to the duo surrounded with textbooks and papers. Magne was looking at the smart blonde girl, while she read aloud. (Y/N)'s heart jolted a little. It wasn't the feeling she had upon seeing the new boy's smile. Nor was it the calming emotion she had after their every talk.
Her feet carried her through the next corridor, both groups leaving her sight. (Y/N) was torn.
Was she supposed to forget how amazing she felt around Magne and let him be happy? Or was she meant to fight until she was the only one he could think about?
"Hey, colorful mind." She groaned hearing the annoying nickname.
"Will you ever stop, Laurits?" The boy seemed to gravitate towards her after she visited Magne for the first time. The younger Seier said she was easy to talk to. (Y/N) didn't mind really, they both benefited from their friendship.
"I'm not planning to." He grinned falling in step with her. "So what were you thinking so deeply about?"
"What do you think?" She made a face, which led to chuckling Laurits.
"Still hung up on the wrong guy?" (Y/N) groaned shooting him a glare.
"How many times do I have to say it? I'm not interested in that prideful prick. And I never was." Her words were met with an eyeroll.
"I think you're in denial." Laurits threw an arm around her shoulders, while both of the stopped in front of another class. "Don't worry, if it's meant to be it will."
Just like that she was left alone again. But this time she felt nauseous. Laurits' mind work in mysterious ways. She never understood him properly, but there was something in his words that made the hairs on her neck rise. (Y/N) was getting nervous without a proper reason, and she didn't like it one bit.
The following days were full of anxiousness and constant glances over her shoulder. Laurits seemed to enjoy (Y/N)'s jumpy state a bit too much. Oscar was trying to take her mind off of things, whatever they were. While Magne... Well, he was getting more and more interested in another girl. It bothered (Y/N) more than Hilde's comments. But the good thing was, that Jutul kids stopped bothering her. She could go as far as saying they were back on good terms.
"Seems your prince left you behind." Hilde chuckled, while their small group climbed the trail.
"And where's yours?" (Y/N) snapped with a sweet smile. Oscar shook his head dragging her further up the mountain.
"We don't want you fighting here, yeah?" He gave her a pointed look. (Y/N) only huffed before speeding up. Ever since she entered highschool hiking became her thing. She was no longer tired from hours long walks through the forest that covered the hillsides.
Her eyes danced around the scenery seen from the top. She could see the clear skies, with dark clouds gathering far in the north. Her gaze swept over the green of nature they were surrounded by. She could feel the trees breathing in with her. It was almost like she was a part of it herself.
"Need some help?" (Y/N) glanced up from her half done tent to see Fjor.
"If you want to." He took it as an invitation and took the place by her side.
"You're not joining others?" His question sounded more like a statement, but it wasn't far from the truth.
"I don't really trust Laurits." (Y/N) threw a quick glanced to the said boy. Fjor followed her gaze to see Laurits in the middle of the group.
"Life of the party as always." He chuckled and (Y/N) cracked a small smile.
"Jealous of the attention?" Her eyes shone with amusement.
"I think I'm good being in the background for once." Fjor send her one of the most sincere smiles she saw. Both of them rarely showed true feelings. Even lesser when around one another. "Hey, you wanna go for... a walk?" She hesitated noticing the small pause in his sentence. "You don't have to. I just thou-"
"I'd love to." Their faces broke into smiles. Fjor extended his hand and she took it carefully.
They sneaked pass the others and ventured farther away from the camp. They walked in a comfortable silence, Fjor swinging their entwined hands from time to time. It felt unreal, yet right. There was never anything special between them, at least they thought so.
But here, right now? The warmness that flowed up from their hands made their lips turn into blissful smiles. The peacefulness of just being made them feel safe, at home.
"Fjor.." (Y/N) whispered afraid to break the beautiful spell.
"Yes?" He stopped turning to face her. She was uncertain to meet his gaze, bottom lip between her teeth.
"Do you think-" She took a deep breath before raising her eyes. She was met with familiar brown eyes that had golden specks from the setting sun. "Nevermind."
"You sure?" Fjor stepped closer rubbing soothing circles into her knuckles.
"Yeah, I already know the answer." She smiled warmly and placed a butterfly kiss on his cheek. "Come on, the sunset looks amazing from the next hill."
Fjor chuckled behind the giddy girl. She was something else. Someone so pure in the surrounding chaos. And he wasn't about to let her go.
