My Impression of And the Wrath of Chaos
Alright! So I was going to do a first impressions on the episode, maybe even a second watch through, but the episode is so gripping that I never want to take my eyes off the screen when I watch, so I thought that I would just do an overall impression.
I’ve seen a lot of differing opinions on the episode, generally good reviews, but some people are disappointed in how it ended.
So let’s just get the big thing out of the way and spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t watched.
The big death of the season. I thought that the big death would have to do with the Eye of Ra, as did many other people. I read that some people were disappointed that the writers had built up this big thing surrounding a character death and felt as if they didn’t get one. As someone who likes happy endings, I’m not too shaken up about this. But I think that Charlene being the “big death” that they were leading up to had more to do with the fact that she’s a big part of the general franchise. I’ve never seen the movies, but I know she was in them. I know she was a main character in them and for people who came into the TV show fandom because of the movies, Charlene ‘dying’ would be significant. And it was significant for Flynn, which speaks volumes on its own. Also I love my Librarians and Guardian (and Jenkins) too much to see any of them go. I’m glad that the writers didn’t kill off any of my babes.
With that out of the way, what I thought of the overall episode.
Fantastic. As all Librarian finales are. This might be my favourite season finale out of the three we’ve gotten so far, but that might be because the relationships are so well established now and I have so much emotion held in my heart for them that everything feels too intense.
I like that Eve let Flynn know about her tie with DOSA. I like that the two of them created a scheme together and worked together. I like that Eve trusted Flynn enough for that. My whole thing about this secret plan is just that. It was a secret. From the people she called family. Flynn is working on his own shit, I get that he likes to do things on his own. But Eve. I felt a little bit betrayed that she would do something like that to her Librarians; however, knowing their characters, if they had known, they would have gone to help at any sign of trouble.
Eve and Flynn and their relationship. Love how the writers are working with that. They aren’t making Flynn perfect. Eve isn’t perfect either (she’s pretty darn close though). Despite all their imperfections and all the things that bothers the other person, they are willing to stick it out. Eve said it best when she said no, that it wasn’t okay that Flynn had his massive flaws, but he was working on it and that’s what mattered. That’s what I’d love to believe love is and this show displays it so beautifully.
Our favourite trio. God, finales are great because these three will most definitely be together and working together. The dynamic between these three is so fantastic. I want more friends like them, who know their strengths and play to them, but also accept that there are people with other strengths. I like how cohesively they have learned to work. I love that Jake has accepted Ezekiel as a part of the team. I love that the boys take care of Cassandra. I love that Ezekiel and Cassandra stood by their ideas that magic should be used, but respected Jake not wanting to use it. This dynamic works so well. And Jake being the soul, Cassandra the mind, and Ezekiel the heart of a person... ugh. I died. Because these are what people are and I love that they showed that.
JENKINS! This man gets forgotten time and time again with all the amazing stuff the others can do. But this episode was so fun with Jenkins. A living artefact? Hell yes he is! Putting him in a container because of it, oh my god, I almost died. (Another great scene for the trio, I loved watching them being dumb smartly). Jenkins going after Eve as soon as he saw her. Going straight for the throat. He’s a pure knight who has strong morales and selling out your friends went against everything he believed in. Even if he cared about Eve, that didn’t give her a free pass to betraying his munchkin Librarians and the Library. I think Jenkins is such a great character. He has his flaws and he talks about them. I’ve rewatched season 1 and 2 the last two weeks and I have noticed little tidbits about Jenkins that I didn’t notice before. There’s so much more to this man that I hope they explore in season 4 (PLEASE BRING ME THIS PLEASE).
Overall, I loved this episode. It was a nice conclusion for Apep. I agree with the people who said that it felt cleaned up very quickly, but with only ten episodes, they did an amazing job. The cast were amazing, the episodes were amazing, all of the magic was amazing.
