The Meatballs
And the Oscar for best new discovery of an foreign garage rock band goes to...
I don't keep him for his brains
I worked from home today. One of younger cats was settling down on the floor in the living room when he started batting at something. I didn't see what. Then he made a sound, jumped back, and frantically started licking his paw. I thought at first he stepped on something, but there was nothing wrong with his paw when I checked it. He also kept searching around the blanket. Like he was looking for something.
Two minutes later, he found it. A small wasp had gotten inside and Toby was trying to paw at it. "This tiny bug bit me when I hit it. I wonder what will happen if I hit it again?" Luckily, I managed to stop him, catch the wasp, and release it outside. He spent the next 5 minutes searching for his missing prey.
Cats. He should be glad he's cute, because he sure ain't smart.
Revenge of the Meatballs
I am home from work today due to a bout of insomnia that had me getting only three hours of sleep. I can barely function. I shudder to think what tomorrow would have been like had I actually gone into work. This also means I am super tired and don't feel like doing much. The Meatballs (aka, the younger cats) are mystified by these turn of events. She-who-feeds-us-in-the-evening is home for three days straight and is lying on the couch all day? SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG.
I'm not all that fluent in cat, but I imagine the conversation this morning went something like this. Tsaiko = Me. Davi = the tuxedo cat. Unlike most cats who will close their eyes or let them droop to half mast, he really does stare at every one in vaguely concerned manner. Nadia = our eldest cat at 16 and a small, female tortie.
Tsaiko: *laying on couch* Tired.
Davi: *stares*
Tsaiko: What are you staring at?
Davi: Are you dying?
Tsaiko: I'm not dying.
Davi: You're just lying there.
Tsaiko: I'm tired. That's all.
Davi: *stares*
Tsaiko: Why are you staring at me?
Davi: If I sit on you, will you not die?
Tsaiko: I'm not... look. You can sit on me. *pats her knee*
Davi: I don't trust you. *continues to stare*
Tsaiko: Oh for the love of...
Nadia: *jumps up* Yes! You're on the couch. That means I can lay on you.
Davi: She might try to kill you.
Tsaiko: Are you going to help if she does?
Davi: No. I think she-who-feeds-us-in-the-morning will still feed us even if you're dead.
Tsaiko: -_-
After lunch, I finally felt like I could sleep. I went upstairs, laid down on the bed, and went to sleep. Davi was no longer concerned about me dying and slept beside me. Glorious sleep. This lasted about an hour before the other Meatball woke me up. Tsaiko = me, Davi = tuxedo kitty, Toby = a overeager orange white lump of a cat.
Tsaiko: *sleeping*
Toby: OH GOD ARE YOU DEAD?
Tsaiko: *grumbles*
Toby: YOU CAN'T BE DEAD! WHO WILL FEED US IF YOU ARE DEAD?
Davi: What is wrong?
Toby: I THINK THE HUMAN IS DEAD. WE WILL STARVE.
Davi: I thought she might die earlier.
Toby: AND YOU LET HER FALL ASLEEP ANYWAY? Let me see if this will bring her back to life. *paws at face*
Tsaiko: Cat, I was finally sleeping. *rolls over*
Toby: She's not completely dead. There's still hope. Let me give her the breath of life. *sniffs face*
Davi: I'll help. *begins to paw*
Tsaiko: Fine. Fine! I'm awake.
Toby: *makes happy chirping noises* See? I saved you. I brought you back from the dead. You may reward me with pettings.
Tsaiko: *reluctant pettings* I could have slept some more.
Toby: Davi too. He helped.
Davi: I really like chin scritches.
Tsaiko: ;_;
Finally got a chance to listen to this whole thing.
