The Milestone. Art by R Thomas Allwin, from The Illuminated Traveller's Tarot.
Some thoughts on turning 25
I turned 25 today and I feel so relieved and powerful. In today’s society, this age is often presented as a milestone, albeit not a positive one. It’s supposed to be the end of something, of youth and carefreeness. It’s bacisally the end of fun. Perhaps because we tend to idealize a certain idea of “youth”. Women also face pressure to fit in the box, there are certains goals we are pressured to accomplish, namely living with a partner and thinking about having children in the years to come.
I personnally felt worried, nervous. Because you know, it’s a quarter of a century, it’s something. But now that I’ve reached this milestone, I feel nothing but freedom. I don’t regret the years before. I prefer the stability I have now. I feel stronger, wiser, more knowledgeable about myself. I have accomplished many things: I have a job I like, I live in a cute little house in a equally peaceful city, I have fully healed, I have financial and emotional security, I enjoy being single and I want to stay this way, I have gone back to writing. I have solved many of my problems.
Basically, being 25 isn’t an end, it’s a beginning. And I can’t wait to see what’s coming and how life is going to be with this strength the years gave me.
