Hello anon I don’t know if this meant you wanted to hear one but I’ve written one anyway so here ya go! It’s just a one shot drabble thing so the spelling might be sub par. Hope the ideas make sense though.
Trigger Warning: Violence, Choking, Death
“Thanks for coming to help me with this.” Cumulus said, holding the door open for the new clergy member.
“Oh no problem, it’s always a pleasure to be invited to participate in project business, even if it is just fetching set pieces from storage.” He smiled, stepping through the door and descending the spiral staircase to the basement. “Although, I am curious, where are the others? Why aren’t they available to help?” He asked, turning back to Cumulus, who was a few steps behind.
The torches that lined the stone walls of the staircase cast sinister shadows across the young mans face. Cumulus shivered at the sight, and pasted a sickeningly sweet smile onto her lips. “Oh they have practice right now. I’ll be joining them after we get these last few pieces out of storage.” She explained casually.
They reached the bottom of the stairs and Cumulus gestures towards a door at the back of the room. “That’s the storage room over there. Let’s get this done quick so we can get out of here.”
“Sounds good. Sure is creepy down here.”
“Yeah, we’re miles below even the Era 1 level.” Cumulus said. “No one ever ventures this deep into the tunnels.”
The man reached out and took hold of the heavy brass door knob. The chill of the metal in his hand only added to the chill of the cellar air on his neck. He pulled hard and the door opened with a creak, cracking away from the frame as if it had been glued shut with time. He took a few steps into the cold room. feeling the dirt floor under his feet and waiting for his eyes to adjust to the sudden darkness of a room without torches. He blinked the spots out of his vision and looked around. He turned back to face cumulus, confusion and panic growing in his chest.
“Uh, Cumulus, this room is empty. Where is the stuff we’re supposed to bring upstairs?”
Cumulus stepped in front of the door, blocking the little bit of light that was visible from the corridor. “The only thing from this room that will make it back to the surface is me.” She said solemnly. The door slammed behind her, plunging the room into total darkness.
“Wait. Cumulus. What are you doing?” The main pleaded, panic in his voice. His eyes darted around frantically, looking for any sign of the ghoulette in the darkness.
The cold, damp air of the cellar felt thick in his throat. He swallowed hard trying to catch his breath. His heartbeat echoed in his ears. He knew the ghoulette could hear it in the silence of the chamber. “Please,” He choked out, tasting the tears that he hadn’t realized were running down his face. “Don’t do this.”
“I wish I didn’t have to.” Cumulus’ voice seemed to come from everywhere at once, as if the darkness itself was speaking to him. “But I found your journal. I know about your plans to hurt my family and I can’t allow that to happen. This is how it has to end. Just be thankful that I didn’t have the heart to hand you over to Cirrus. Trust me, your partners will not be so lucky.”
“No wait, I…” The man protested, but the words were caught in his throat. The air in the room swirled around him, rustling his hair and cassock. Panic rose in his chest as he realized what was happening. He tried to breathe but with each breath he drew in the air grew thicker in his throat, choking him from the inside out. He clawed at his throat. The air was icy and heavy like winter waters. He felt as though he was drowning. The pressure in his chest was unlike anything he had ever known. It squeezed itself from the pits of his chest, up behind his eyes and danced around his brain. Oxygen deprivation making his thoughts hazy and his fingertips numb. His arms fell from where they had been scratching at his neck, and hung limp at his sides as the life seeped from his body.
“I’m sorry.” Cumulus whispered, with one last burst of energy to finish the job
Her words were the last thing the man heard as the air around him wrapped tighter and tighter until his heartbeat slowed to a stop. Suddenly the air in the room went still, and the mans body slumped to the floor in a heap. Cumulus couldn’t bring herself to face the aftermath of what she had done. Without looking back, she turned and ran out of the room, slamming the door behind her. By the time she reached the top of the stairs, the whole ordeal seemed like a distant memory from a lifetime ago.
Cumulus made it to the practice room and slipped in next to Cirrus just in time for her part.
“Did anyone notice I’m late?” Cumulus whispered to her girlfriend.
“No, I don’t think so. Where were you?” Cirrus asked.
“I had something urgent that I needed to take care of. But everything is fine now.” She smiled, at Cirrus and took her place at the keyboard.
