Thinking about chapter 42/A Silent Way and how Johnny starts trying to shoo Gyro away from him and danger.

Then he starts talking about his past and how anytime something good starts to hang around him for "too long" tragedy happens to either him or those around him.

I wonder if as the days went by, he'd lay awake at night. Maybe he'd glance over throughout the day and the dread would build as he realized that Gyro was becoming more than someone he'd only see for a short time or be more than just a distant exchange partnership.

The guilt would roil in his gut knowing that sooner or later something might happen to someone else he really cared about and he knew it and Gyro didn't which would be so unfair so he had to tell him then.

Did he leave to try and break things off before it got harder? Or was it because that was his moment of revelation that he loves Ilya? Was the shock of Ilya saying his name enough to finally make Shane brave enough to walk out like he’s been trying to do for years?
