anyone else thinking about how uhmmm well not to get oedipal this fine wednesday afternoon that's not what this is. but is anyone else thinking about how the first time we see dean really really grieve a new death it was because he refused to stay away from a hunter who had gone into hiding, who was trying to stay one step ahead of dean in order to protect him from the most primordial abominations he knew of, because dean thought he could make his own utility and love for family outweigh his inherent liability. and then that’s the exact narrative plays out again in purgatory, except that actually cas was going to survive in spite of the narrative repeating. And then in a single visceral incontrovertible moment chooses not to. Which just like. Does not fucking compute for dean. Everyone needs to be sacrificing all the time, like he, dean winchester, is also doing, and not sabatoging themselves/himself just because they’re all wrapped up in their own world and own issues. Surely none of them are obsessed bastards, just forced to act this way. Surely if anyone had his own agency he would leave if he could. choose other people if he could. Surely.
