honestly i can't stop thinking about what eric charmelo said about him and other gay writers throwing us a "nugget" sometimes, under the false assumption that none of us were queer ourselves and with a clear misogynistic undertone. like. of fucking course. and i mean i'm SURE for most of them it shifted from that to like, genuine queercoding for the story's sake etc, and i'm sure there was a queer writer or two who were genuine from the start. but oh my god. like i know having a not so diverse writers room had an impact, as did the socio-political context during the time it aired, but damn. it's easy to project onto writers based on just one shared axis of marginalization

I always forget 'The End' is literally s5e4. Like Cas had literally only been in one season at that point and they decided the best course of action for his character was to establish that he would follow Dean for the rest of his life even if it meant slowly depleating himself into something unrecognizable from the angel who originally dedicated himself to Dean in the first place.
