i think it’s so interesting and really kind of beautifully tragic how the postmortal doesnt span, like, hundreds of years. you can kind of forget because his cure age is 29 and the world around him changes so fast but john’s real age is 89 when he dies. normal, natural age to die, even if he has no normal, natural way left for that to happen. after all this excitement about living forever or at least longer john’s life ends at around the time it would have if he hadn’t gotten the cure.

Where I'm at: I read three more posts. One was just a page of links, headlines to articles relevant to the events in the story, like. One was of a daughter killing her wealthy father to get his fortune, because, I mean, he wasn't gonna die on his own. Then there was a post about how John's dad is handling the cure. Fun fact: it's not going well. And then, finally, a post was an email from an old co-worker of John's named Chan. He was a Chinese man that worked with him temporarily thru a transfer program. At this point in the story China has begun branding people with their birth date and killing people who get the cure. So... I hope the best for Chan and his family.
Likes: The post with the dad was great honestly? I mostly just like the dad's character. His age is written well, I think. He's very tired... Very relatable.
Dislikes: What's going on what the fuck dude this is all great information but WHERE ARE WE GOING WITH IT

Where I'm at: I read a few "chapters" into act 2. It's about ten years later (2029) and a few new characters were introduced then promptly taken away. Weird, but okay... The term "troll" has evolved to mean "a person that wants to make sure you are miserable but it's not like they're murdering you or anything so we can't do anything about them I guess". Interesting. No major character death. Yet.
Likes: The plot seems to be advancing a bit, I think. I'm gonna be honest I still don't know what's going on or what the end goal is, but like. I haven't lost interest, so that's gotta mean something good.
Dislikes: Sonia. Hoooly fuck. First off, she was in one chapter and then promptly vanished and has yet to return. She was the main characters SO or something, but protag didn't wanna marry her so she left him. Comes across as kinda petty to me, I dunno about you. Glad she's gone. Hope she doesn't come back.
Final thoughts/predictions: I just want some action to happen oh my god please.

Ok so, I already read the first few chapters of the book, so if you wanna know what happens up until now you'll have to read it yourself. I also had to Google what book clubs actually do, so I don't talk into the abyss aimlessly for however long. Anyways, it goes without saying, there may be spoilers ahead.
Where I'm at: I have just finished part one of the book as I'm writing this. Protag got the cure and won't age, exposition happened, someone died, and the cure got legalized. That's. Pretty much it.
Likes: The way it's written is super interesting. It's like reading a blog, every chapter is an update. I imagine this could be what it's like in the future, like when blog posts become the new age cave paintings. The main character, John, is also not exactly the most boring person. He seems to be pretty neutral on the politics of the book, but definitely has a personality.
Dislikes: It's veeeerry slow to build up to anything and any exciting sequences thus far have only spanned like. Three pages? Max? The book is about mid sized (365 pages) and I'm a decent chunk in and not much has happened in the way of plot moving forward. Hopefully it starts in part 2.
Final thoughts/predictions: John's gonna dismantle the government.
