How did Octavia know?

More than once I've found myself reading from Parables to my family in the past few weeks.

Some people want to step away or are scared of God as change and everything she has to say but I want to go clear eyed into the challenges ahead. I read an article about people suprised by getting measled after being unvaccinated and following those that don't follow science now in power - now there are afflicted by the Pox.

At brunch - after reading the article and talking about the US bombing Iran yesterday - I read the following passages from Parable of the Talents:

"the Pox" lasted from 2015 through 2030- a decade and a half of chaos. This is untrue. The Pox has been a much longer torment. It began well before 2015, perhaps before the turn of the millennium. It has not ended...... Overall the Pox has had the effect of an installment-plan World War III. In fac, there were several small, bloody shooting wars going on around the world during the Pox. These were stupid affairs - wastes of life and treasure. They were fought, ostensibly, to defend against vicious foreign enemies. All too often, they were actually fought because inadequate leaders did not know what else to do. Such leaders knew that they could depend on fear, suspicion, hatred, need, and greed to around patroitic support for war."

I always used to be slightly scathing in the privacy of my head of people in the past referring to diseases as ‘The Pox’ or whatevs like buddy there’s a lot of poxes
