Day 7 - Favorite Issue/Episode
For my favorite episode, it’d have to be V is for Victory from Season 2. I really like the concept of WITCH and the gang having to work with Phobos this way. I like the idea of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my ally/friend’. The idea of another narmy Meridian noble having to adjust to Earth stuff is also fodder for hyjinks and humor! And it also just proves how hard it is to cooperate and even work with Phobos.
Also, can we talk about the real MVP here? Matt. He had to not only work with the bratty prince, he also had to share a room with him and let him steal his bed and let him glamor into each other later on. XD The boy doesn’t get enough credit for his patience.
As for my favorite issue, it would be #104: Another World. While I can agree that the later comic arcs weren’t really as well written as the earlier ones, I really loved the concepts presented in this issue. Particularly, Nune-Boreal and the Runics.
I loved how Nune-Boreal seemed to be this city that intermingled technology and magic and how there are certain parameters of where magic can and cannot be used. The idea that W.I.T.C.H. also seems to have this fan base of their own is also a nice shoutout to the actual fan base! XD Me and my friend love playing around with the idea that Nune-Boreal being sort of....self aware and fourth wall breaking. I feel like this place could’ve had more potential for W.I.T.C.H.’s ongoings.
As for the Runics?
To start off, I do wish they actually had enough consistency to write a complete story arc of the guardians. I mean, these guys just pop out of nowhere (Yan lin even says that they somehow only started being a threat just now? Even though she also made it seem like they’ve been a threat to Kandrakar for a long time?? But I digress...) and then don’t appear for the rest of the comic arc?? (Save for Nashter, who appears for two more issues as Will’s temporary love interest until BatMatt comes back...and then never mention him again. >.>) Though I guess this isn’t the first time that good characters (like Orube) and ideas (like Cedrube) have been strangely written off and thrown under the rug...
Criticism aside, I like playing around with the idea of the guardians having a ‘dark’ counterpart. There was so much potential for these guys to be part of a story for an entire arc of sorts! I mean, it’s even implied that the boys could actually be just as powerful as our girls, so can you imagine what an epic face-off they’d probably have if it were not for the competition? There also seemed to be some hinted feud between Kandrakar and the Runics’ world/leaders(?):
What did he even mean?? What else does Yan Lin possibly know..!? Curious about the answer? Well, we’ll never find out because they’re never seen again! Either way, I guess this is what stuff like this and fanworks are for, right? XD
30 Days Of WITCHversary Days 14 - 18
Day 14 - 15: Something that Irked you and Something that Needs a Quick Fix
(No worries Orube, I too would be irked if all my friends could think of despite being on adventures with them and losing my lover... only remembered that One time I ate money and then used that as my defining moment for a Memory lane slideshow in the last issue...)
Just... Orube’s treatment in the later stuff after the fifth arc. In the last issue, the only mention of her is how she mistook money for food—which kinda discounts all the stuff she’s been through with the girls and all that stuff with Cedric. Her character really needs more credit than she’s given.
So yeah, kinda wish they’d given Orube’s memory a better send off. :/
Day 16: Something that Needs an Overhaul
The character development (if one could even call it that) they gave Matt in the later comic arcs was...strange. He just mysteriously disappears...and then reappears as this BatMan-y dude? And takes the guardians’ powers and becomes their mentor for their new ones?? And then he’s also apparently a General of sorts in Kandrakar??? I’m not sure if they made this as a way to somehow get him more involved in WITCH’s story, but I feel like they kinda went the wrong way about this.
Day 17 - 18: Something that Needs to be Revisited and Something that Needs more Love from the Fandom
Once again, the Runics! XD These Guys seriously had so much potential and I wish that the comics had delivered on what was implied to be a grand face-off between two powerful forces of the universe and the concept of the guardians having a “dark” counterpart.
