We don't really know a lot about Aelwyn's relationship with Kalina and a lot of Kalina's interactions with Riz are just pure gaslighting and manipulation so it's hard to know how much of her affection is actually genuine but.
You can pry the headcanon that Kalina saw Riz (and to a much lesser extent Aelwyn) as her surrogate nephew and niece from my cold dead hands. Kalina did fully try to sacrifice Riz in her first scene, so she was always down to kill him, but the idea that all her talk about practically being his god-mother being genuine is just so funny to me. Because, I mean, Kalina rarely speaks to Tracker and Kristen and Sandralynn in comparison. She doesn't make any active effort to talk to Kristen the way she goes out of her way to check in on Riz and bother him even though he's by far the least likely to listen to her when she's trying to use a carrot and a stick because he's way too morally principled. All of which really just makes me think that Riz was... 100% Kalina's favourite, which is why she decided to personally yank him around and torment him. It's just how she shows affection, can't help being a Shadowcat.
Aelwyn, however, I think was probably Kalina's favourite henchman? Like, it seems as if Aelwyn and Kalina were in frequent contact, while Arianwen had to do a ridiculous amount of research into stuff that Kalina already knew, which leads me to believe that Kalina just doesn't like talking to her or her husband because they're so thoroughly unlikable. Meanwhile, Aelwyn, who's pretty much the opposite of Riz in... just about every way, Kalina seems to go out of her way to fuck with and utilise. Like getting her involved in the conspiracy, prompting her to kill the oracle and sink the Harpy, even warning her specifically when they were being magically fucked with. This is mainly pure headcanon, but I do think she was at least Kalina's second favourite after she'd cut her ties with Pok and Sklonda.
Kalina is like... evil to the core, not a single redeemable quality because she's not really a person she's a nightmare plague, but just the idea that she has people she dubs her special kids and needles them the most, it's just endlessly funny to me and part of the reason I love her so much. I do also find both their relationships with her interesting on a drama level, but there's something funny to me about how she and Riz are trying to kill each-other but she also just checks in on him every now and again and shadowed all his PTA meetings to be like "That's my BOY."
