Btw Deku saw the scene from the same angle as us when it showed during Tenko Shimura: Origin.
That means that the reason why Deku didn't see the rest of the Shimuras crying and screaming is because he's in their place. See, same door:

Tomura Shigaraki once got AFO, the quirk, and entered a world of pure hell for a power he never needed. He makes mistakes and only realizes it too late, however, he´s sure Izumi Midoriya HIS HERO will put an ending to all this...
Sadly for him...someone else has other plans...
Now Tomura Shigaraki wakes up in the past as Tenko Shimura. What he does do now?
This fic is still going strong. Changes are happening to baby step...WE ARE ENTERING THE TODO ARC
Nobody is talking about how Tenko has the little sibling trauma all over him, because AFO really said to his face that Hana was "too well nurtured" and Tenko was forced to take all the blame for something Hana led him to do and—
You can see how Hana was the golden child at home. There's a panel of her petting Mon-chan while Tenko is left outside. There's a panel of Nao hugging her protectively as Kotaro strikes Tenko down.
It's not her fault, she was just a kid and she really loves Tenko. It just doesn't change the fact that they were treated sooooo differently. While she learned to lie and fake in order to please her dad, Tenko suffered and nobody did anything. It had to do with how sexist Kotaro was, of course. It had to do with the fact that Hana was untouched by AFO, while Tenko never stood a chance because he was born a puppet.
Tenko was the family failure for not having a quirk, while Hana acted like the hero, promising Tenko pretty lies and filling him with hope and doing all she could to support him.
The little sibling who is not enough.
The black sheep for wanting to be a hero.
The naive loser, daydreaming to escape his reality and make the world a better place.
The son that cannot carry his dad's legacy and that cannot be the man his dad wants him to be.
The little child that hides with his mom, because she's the only one who cares to heal him or hear him or look at him like she's proud of him.
Too fragile. Too foolish. Too broken.
Tenko was led to believe that he was a monster because he lost control (once!! at 5 years old!!) and did something unforgivable with a quirk that wasn't even his. Half a quirk.
Hana died running and Tenko died chasing her that night.
Something I always found... particular? maybe? is that Tomura kept his family in his vestige world, despite the fact that he didn't absorb them or their quirks like it would happen with OFA or AFO.
We know that Tenko was in a sort of time loop. He was stuck living over and over again the day they died. That was his vestige world and it interacted directly with real life, since Deku's decayed arms translated to reality.
It was an overlap of some sort, but the reason behind the Shimuras there wasn't because AFO took their quirks or because they shared a quirk. Tomura kept them there through trauma alone. How is that possible? How can they be as solid as other people on the vestige world that were there trapped with their quirks?
I just think I'd be an interesting fanfic approach if we theorized that maybe Tomura unknowingly carries his family's quirks within him... Somehow.
It was as if the itchiness welled up from deep in my gut.
Hmmmmm, it looks like Kotaro Shimura was not a traditional man when it comes to his house???
Two cars. One is probably from Nao's parents. It looks like they were big on nature, for the amount of plants they have. Also, it looks like anyone on the street could have noticed little Tenko crying in the yard. He used to sit against the wall that was to the street, for what I gathered in this pic:
I wonder where all the neighbors were and how Tenko was allowed to roam the streets after the scandal that must have been the Shimuras' death.
It happened at night, right? Did no one wake up? It was not some remote area. The house crumbled and there were people screaming. How is that no one checked on him?
I can't wait to revisit that night now that Deku and Tomura are able to see each other's memories. It's time for us to get some answers from that night.
I wonder if that was really just some random man or if something else happened previous to that...
Something to pay attention to is how Tenko and Touya grew on this kind of families that followed the traditional role of the father as the leader of the house, holding the power, making the rules and the choices, while the mother was relegated to a second place of caring for the children in the terms the man stipulated and keeping the house in order.
Rei and Nao were treated by her husbands more like subordinates taking orders than mothers that should have equal saying when their kids and their house are related to the problem. Whenever you are trying to study the Todoroki and Shimura family, you need to acknowledge they had a bad power dynamic based on misogyny and strong patriarchy.
Nao and Rei were victims of their husbands too, explicitly in Rei's case and implicitly in Nao's case. In both stories is mentioned that Enji and Kotaro held all the economic power of the family, which if you remember is the main reason behind Rei and Enji's marriage happened, and a (probable) factor behind why Nao's parents didn't interven for Tenko's sake, since it was not their house per se but Kotaro's. In both cases we can appreciate the way Nao and Rei are ignored and dismissed as authorities in their own houses, treated as more an employee than you know, a woman who has equal part as a head of the house. And in both cases the story goes as far as to show us how Hana and Fuyumi couldn't get Touya and Tenko's pain beause they didn't receive the same treatment from her dads, which was not a good thing at all but rooted in their misogyny; Enji and Kotaro'd ignored their daughters too, not caring if they were as rebellious as their sons, because in their minds the girls were just girls and well, they weren't a big threat. Hana resorted to lying in fear of her dad punishing her and becoming invisible almost whenever her dad was mad, while Fuyumi was pushed away early on and had to fulfil the mother role once Rei couldn't be there anymore.
That is the house Tenko and Touya grew up in, that's the house that abused them and their mothers and their siblings for years and years. Tenko says it explicitly: this's the house my father made, and Touya calls out his mom when she tried to act as an authority in the house: I know you married my dad for money and we are simply experiments so don't act like you you have any control here. It'll do you good to you all to remember the kids do not know their mothers challenged their fathers for them, they feel betrayed by their moms without understanding their situation or why things are like that (they are only kids!) and Rei and Nao were not perfect, they have a part in how things went down, but you can never ever compared them to her husbands without acknowledging any of this.
Obsessed with Nao Shimura because the minute her husband hit her kid, she went straight to him and told him it was enough, she would no longer follow him and sweetly but firmly called him an hypocrite for saying he wanted a happy family, then doing something like that.
The thing with the Shimuras is that they had so unbelievably bad luck that I repeat it could have been not luck at all but AFO's doing all along okay that with Toga and Touya cases, it was a decade of negligence and abuse accumulating, but Tenko case was a fatal quirk awakening in ( what could have been ) a one BAD day situation, that didn't even allowed them to make amends. Hana was there to apologize to Tenko, Nao was just coming from Kotaro's office to check on her son after she made it clear to her husband that such violence was NOT happening again. And I can say Kotaro wouldn't have done it again, but I know Nao was not staying silent or letting him get away with it.
Nao went running to her son, answering Tenko's earlier prayer (help! don't just stay there watching! someone please help me! anybody!), even when her oldest daughter was desintegrating in a pool of blood. I go as far as to say that, if Hana hadn't thrown herslef on Nao's arm (and we're not about to blame the little girl for this, understood?!), Nao would have run to Tenko earlier too.
She's not innocent, of course. For all the time she allowed Kotaro to punish Tenko, to talk him down, for the negligence / the complicit act of allowing Kotaro to send Tenko to stay outdoors, knowing that his allergies would get worst... But in just one chapter, she was about to correct her ways, about to turn the situation around... And then she died.
