Surf Punk; Your Next Thing
Do you love to aggressiveness of a punk or rock song but wish it could be more upbeat, maybe more.... Surfy? I think I got the thing for you.
SURF PUNK! An amazing genre I found last month. This little insert from Rate Your Music explains it pretty well “Surf punk is a genre of Punk Rock that incorporates elements of Surf Rock... While numerous punk rock bands, notably Ramones, were heavily influenced by the Vocal Surf of The Beach Boys, surf punk bands generally draw more inspiration from the original instrumental surf rock of artists like Dale.“
But why is this in? Many teens are getting into the punk scene but a lot can’t keep up with the grittiness of a punk song so they turn to surf punk. Although still intense, it keeps up surf and upbeat elements commonly found in pop songs.
Teens want to be rebellious but still safe and surf punk is their best bet. I blame Gilmore Girls and indie movies for shaping the quirky teens of today to feel compelled to listen to rock.
I hear you whine “So what, you recommend me this genre but where do I start?” What you think I’m gonna leave you hanging? Of course not. Here are my favourite surf punk bands and song recommendations to get you started!
