The Slightlys, Superhero
Music thingy for @blackdogpadfoots and @egdramaqueen ?
For @blackdogpadfoots Life Lesson by dodie and for @egdramaqueen Superhero by The Slightlys
I find myself swaddled in warm fuzzy feels as I listen to The Slightly’s “Holly, Should I Miss You?”, a sweetly aching new ditty that the Los Angeles band just dropped yesterday. Why The Slightly’s tagged the track Nick Jonas evades me, as I’m not a huge Jonas Brothers fan. If there’s a direct relation between the song and something from Nick Jonas, feel free to enlighten me. What doesn’t evade me is the infectiousness of this saccharine hued, emo tinged alt pop and indie rock cut. It’s a heart swelling delight that takes me back to the early 2000′s. The Slightly’s witty play on the song’s title versus its actual lyrics is quite a hoot, too. “Holly, Should I Miss You?” is the perfect dewy eyed yet panoramic sweeping anthem for those late night hours when you miss someone so much you want to jump in the car and drive a thousand miles to see them.

Los Angeles’ The Slightlys continues to dish out incredibly hooking indie rock and alt pop on their latest, a slickly smoldering song named Devil In The Details. There’s a wicked savageness to the song despite its mellifluous smoothness. For the first time ever, The Slightlys remind me of early Panic! At The Disco with the dark and muggy song, alongside its Sir Sly sootiness and Walk The Moon vivaciousness. Purchase Devil In The Details from iTunes.
The Slightlys are proving themselves one formidable emerging pop band from Los Angeles as they lure me in with a spirited new one named Go Getter. “Let’s bounce, let’s bounce... make you move, make you move”, they sing, and they certainly have me doing just those things to the power pop meets indie rock anthem, a vibrant treat with Walk The Moon robustness and The Wombats’ melodic tendencies. It’s a delightfully infectious recipe with much endearing vocals from a quartet who’s quickly ascending my bands to watch list with each new release.
