The Ballad of Vampire Tree
Just finished listening to a recording of "The Sumach" by Ulrich Daubeny. In it's honor I have composed a song to the tune of Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee from the musical Grease. Spoilers for an old ass short story, I guess.
Look at me, I’m vampire tree, lousy with morbidity
my leaves turning red while birds end up dead,
because I’m vampire tree
welcome maid, nap in my shade, in my nook your head is laid
and you’ll be back for another attack,
all while you start to fade
I don’t stalk or prowl, whisper or howl, and I can’t turn into a bat
my leaves getting dry, no birds coming by
maybe you should get a cat
Look at you, face turning blue, doctors don’t know what to do
why don’t they check that hole in your neck left by vampire tree
sumac, sumac, yes that’s me, secretly the vampire tree!
control your ire, there’s no need for that fire
oh no! poor vampire tree
