Valhalla is a place / Valhalla is a person . what if the Æsir spoke so fondly of Valhalla as the home they’re returning to because they remember coming from it ?
before they’re born in vessels , to live on the nine realms , they exist in another ethereal plane , a golden hall dominated by its own tree of life , a world of peace and valour , known as Valhalla . heaven . and it’s actually where all beings come from . all beings , descending from one plane to another forget about their origin , begin life anew , with no memories prior . a blank slate upon which to paint their life story .
and it’s the same for the Gods of Ásgarðr , but unlike all other creatures , they’re born with an unfamiliar , innate yearning for something they once had , remembering it through snapshots that become clearer through epiphanies , visions , and meditation . they don’t remember the place , but they remember the feelings it evoked . they experience a sense of déjà vu in travelling to the branches of Yggdrasil ; in the simplicity of a child’s laughter ; in the beauty of an explosion of stars ; in the joy of shared laughter across golden halls . but it’s stronger than déjà vu , somehow : like an inaccessible memory , in the back of their minds . a lack of knowledge and understanding they have to live with .
Valhalla is a place , but it’s also a person ----------------- and it’s difficult to understand where one begins and the other starts , because the only people who can tell you this are , well . dead . as far as anyone’s aware , it’s a world that makes decisions , autonomous , and yet in the form of a warrior that welcomes those into its never - ending golden halls , encourages the victors to feast forever , and marvel over Glasir --- the most beautiful of trees , and the watchguard of Valhalla .
Valhalla’s a warrior that is , at all times , in tune with the happenings across the nine realms , at all times hears prayers made for the fallen , and with all that information can make a decision in milliseconds , on who amongst the fallen are worthy of these golden halls . halls which are reserved for the mightiest , the bravest , the most compassionate of heroes .
FYI : 👆🏽THIS IS RACISM
Black People pointing out disparities IS NOT RACISM
POC talking about Race IS NOT RACISM
Saying something mean (or even stereotypical) about White People IS 👏🏿NOT 👏🏿 RACISM !!!!
The “ISM” in Racism denotes a system .... as in systemic poverty... systemic discrimination.... systemic suppression.
But y’all don’t hear me tho.....
To lost dreams...
From 5 years old, I was dead set on being a writer. I have always been interested in language and was rewarded with a great sense of satisfaction when the nuances of words resonated in my head. It didn’t matter to me that I have aphantasia because I didn’t know it existed. (It’s like a play in my head where the actors are playing behind a closed curtain - and I’m the wrong side of it.) All I knew is that each word was unique even in the face of its synonyms, and I felt those differences coursing through my very own neurones. I still do!
I was the child who, instead of going out to play, curled up in the corner and took herself to a world of her own invention through the means of the written word. I saw sheets of paper more than I saw the sun and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Who cares if I’d have to be the starving artist for a while? Who cares that I’d likely have been hit by more rejections than acceptances?
And then secondary school started. English became more about regurgitating someone else’s analyses in essays than being creative. People used to look at me as if to say, “A writer? What a waste of a brain.” My mind became aware of its blindness and I became severely depressed - and I stopped writing altogether. I am scared to admit that my mind fights to find words sometimes. I am even more afraid to admit that I have nothing about which to write at all anymore.
My five-year-old self would be so disappointed... she sacrificed her imagination - the greatest part of herself - to the hands of an education system that moulds us into depressed conformists.
No rest for the weary...
Back in April of 2016 I was laid off from a great job that I had with a company that I gave 18 years of my life to. It’s been 9 months since then, and I have been rejected for every single job I have applied for to date. The Federal extensions to unemployment were discontinued a few years back, and my state only provides 26 weeks of unemployment benefits, which ran out some time ago.
Being a divorced non-custodial parent, I must provide spousal support and child support to my ex and my children. Of course, I don’t object to supporting my children, but my ex refuses to work and believes I am 100% responsible for the financial support of the children, which means that if I have my support reduced my children will suffer, which is the last thing I want. My current monthly support obligations are $3,000 per month, which is an extremely hefty amount for someone who is unemployed, but that amount allows my ex to continue her behavior of not supporting herself.
There’s a lot of talk out there regarding dead-beat dads, but not much about the women who are capable of working, but refuse out of some idea that their ex “owes” them support for the rest of their life. And to this end, because she is the custodial parent, she is allowed to collect public assistance and medicaid for the children rather than get a job -- all while I am being billed by the state for these services (yes, the cost of medicaid for your children gets added to your child support obligation) and becoming further and further behind on my child support. Being unemployed has turned me into a “dead-beat dad” through no fault of my own, but allows my ex to be a dead-beat mom with impunity. If I were in Texas (thankfully I’m not) I would not be allowed to renew my driver’s license, which makes no sense when ultimately I need to drive to get a job and I need a job to pay my child support.
I used to make over $150,000 per year, now I’m reduced to applying to fast-food and retail stores, only to be rejected in favor of 20-somethings who have no bills, no obligations, and in many cases, no work ethic, because I am deemed “over qualified.”
I’m hopeful that this will all turn around soon, but I’m planning for the worst. People talk about privilege and how easy it is for middle-aged white males in this world, but I’m here to tell you that it’s not all unicorns and rainbows from where I stand. The struggle is real - for everyone.
warhammer 40k has a shockingly similar message to a marvel film

Please be nice to your primary care/specialist offices staff. We are doing the best we can.
We do not set the prices, your insurance companies does.
Our phone systems/fax mess up too.
You are not the only patient so please give us time to get things done.
I’m sorry you had to wait on hold, it we also have patients in front of us and other phone calls.
If there’s a long wait, it could be because of an emergency not because we are slow.
If the doctor wants more testing it’s not for the money. We don’t see the money from testing sent out.
We don’t dedicate that you have to do physical therapy before an MRI, your insurance does.
There is a lot going on that as a patient you aren aware of. We know this and we try to make it as easy as possible for you. But we are human so please don’t yell at us. We have emotions just like everyone else. We are doing our best to care for you.
We are human.
