About the Seven from A Song of Ice and Fire.
Everybody keeps speaking of how the female side of the Seven is a reinterpretation of the Triple Goddess of Wiccan/neo-Pagan/R. Graves-affiliated beliefs and cosmogonies. The Maiden, the Mother and the Crone, quite literaly.
But I never saw people point out how the male side of the Seven is a reuse of the trifunctional hypothesis, the three functions Dumezil came up with in his comparative mythology/Indo-European studies. The Father is the first function, "the sovereign", the Warrior is the second function, "the military", and the Smith is the third function, "productivity and crafts".
