I don't dare pretend to be a victim's advocate, just an angry bitch with a voice like a weapon, but as the child of a trafficking victim's advocate, I have been aware from the beginning that very few people on tungle would last a day in social work because advocacy is like the exact inverse of what they do. Plenty are emotionally incapable of becoming an anarchist version of one, even.
Truly, unfortunately, if you want to care for a victim instead of just about them, you have to defang their abuser by NOT fighting them. In social work, it is entirely against protocol, not just for company liability or something but for the safety of the most vulnerable involved, victim and their real support.
The thing about victim advocacy is that it involves holding your tongue. Law requires you to only act on evidence of harm. But advocacy requires you to handle that evidence with tact and virtue.
Even if you have circumstancial evidence of abuse, spending time hurling that evidence at the accused rather than reparating and securing the victim is nuts. The desire to fight back at abusers as a victim's advocate specifically is insane.
And so I am not a victim's advocate. It's too hard for me. It requires self control I do not currently possess. My point is very few people online are real victim's advocates. That is fucking fine. That is a morally okay fact.
But the deliberate insinuation that you are whrn you are not is just as dangerous as an abuser if not moreso. If an abuser is close doors and crafty and still active as an abuser and you are shouting from the rooftops, here's the perpetrator by name and station, you are bringing a dangerous level of visibility to the victim.
I am not an advocate for victims specifically. I am another bitch with a tumblr blog and so are you.
In conclusion, there are ethical reasons call myself a fledgling aid advocate and a dogmatic speaker and writer. That is a choice I made. I am but a sophomore on my journey and I will never fix my mouth to claim to be much more than that at this time.
