Weekly Book for January 9-15, 2017 is....
*drumroll*
The Waking Engine by David Edison.
*whispers* What? What do you say? What is this book?
Honestly, I would have never even known this book existed without browsing around at my local library like a snail whose lost its shell (as one does).
I zipped over to the fantasy section of the library (as one does), for a fantasy fix (as one does) and scanned through descriptions (as one does) when I chose this book (as one does).
Little did I know the protagonist turned out to be a lovely member of the LGBT community. Our hero is a bit blundering begins the journey as confused and stumbling, but eventually goes on an incredible arc to become a hero of sorts.
Tied up with numerous story lines, a genius setting, and imaginative characters (a few of which may be familiar to students of history), I would definitely give this book a run if you want a book featuring an LGBT character going on an arc relatively unrelated to LGBT issues. Essentially, this protagonist is a character who happens to be gay and gets thrown in on an magnificent plot.
Again, there are a TON of characters and plots in the book, but if that’s your kinda thing, I would definitely give this book a go.
Stay strong, and don’t forget to smile everyone -- Rowan.
