There were originally gonna be way more long hairdos in the show, but the writer was told to cut it down in the tv/movie production when compared to the original work, so only some of long hairdos being kept in the show version is the result of a compromise.

oh yeah Fuuko's hair was initially very long too, maybe it was hair cgi in this AU? Such lengths.
