Eyes littered with tiresome years peeked over the morning paper he’d been reading at the sound of his daughter’s voice. Folding and setting the news upon his lap he bent forward ever so slightly and shifted in his chair.

"You’ll rot your teeth out, eating that crap." Were the first words to slip from scowling lips. How some rambunctious brats could sully their mouths so early in the day was beyond him… then again, lighting his tongue with the sting of alcohol each morning always left his medical unit in foul moods. "There’s fruit in the storage, have at it. It’ll keep the scurvy from blackenin’ your mouth, lass."
