Jonny clears his throat and gets to his feet, swan diving off the side of the boat. “Gonna take a lap around the island,” he says, when he breaks the surface, brushing his wet hair back out of his eyes. He swims off before anybody can say anything else.

This kid breaks all the rules. He hangs out with the big kids, swims at sunset, and takes his fishing boat out after dark. It shouldn’t surprise Patrick that eventually he’s just another one.

What's your favorite Patrick Kane anecdote?

My favorite? I don’t know, for some reason I find him so endearing that basically everything he does I love, haha. I love how he’s so himself even if that goes against the stereotypically hockey bro (not that he’s not a stereotypically hockey bro a lot, because he is). Like the first thing that’s popping into my head is after the 2015 cup win when he went to a bar and DJ’d and played one direction. That just seems so Patrick Kane and I love it. 

I also love that he almost always says a big fuck you to all the boos and negative comments (throughout his whole career) by going out and playing his best possible game. I love that he can thrive off the negativity and if it gets to him, he’ll never let anyone know. Like in that video yesterday where they mentioned his first ever NHL hat trick was immediately following that comment saying he’s not really a threat even strength and then went out and scored three even strength goals.

“What the fuck? Watch it,” he hisses, gloved hand going to protect his ribs, and looks up to find Jonny staring at him, eyebrow raised. As if Patrick was the one who crashed into him.

He’s not even sure why the guy is here. It sure as hell isn’t to train. He’s wearing a suit that makes him look like a Wall Street douche, which for all Patrick knows he is.

Patrick’s a natural and Jonny’s been training for as long as he’s been breathing. They don’t see eye to eye.

Another #latergram, this is from 2 weeks back. (Late posts happen because there’s always so much to do.) Sending a big Thank you to the City of Burbank for letting me bring 3 classes to their beautiful Art Deco City Hall. There are two Hugo Ballin murals on site & my students wrote about the art & architecture afterwards. We deconstructed this mural sitting together in the city council chambers. It’s called #the4freedoms after the famous FDR speech. look, some of my favourite book discoveries EVER have come out of this particular project, but hoo boy has that prize gone to a lot of banal and whiny rubbish.
