okay guys my mom's book is now in the editing stage. and I get to help with that! so I can safely say that this is gonna be a damn good book that a lot of people should buy.
if you haven't heard of it, you should seriously check out http://the90tenproject.com/
The book about to come out is This Is Mine: My Story, My Life: Sharing Life Stories of Those Who Have Experienced Foster Care
My mom has worked her ass off on this book, promoting it, finding organizations to support it, finding people to share their stories... here's a quote from the website in case you're not sold yet.
"These amazing individuals have a painful past, a promising future and a powerful presence today. They invite you into their lives for just a moment, to learn from them, and to use their life experience to make things better for others. We will be donating 90% of the proceeds of this book to organizations that currently serve children in foster care to provide extra support for birthdays, holidays, and special needs. We hope to have the book finalized, formatted, and complete for Thanksgiving."
That's right. That's why it's called the 90ten project. 90% of all proceeds, both initial and future, will go towards helping foster kids currently in the system.
This book isn't just stories, though. It's also advice and opinions from foster alum on how to treat foster kids, what they think needs to be done to fix our broken child support system. And everyone knows it's broken.
At the very least, please check out the site (which also has tips for foster parents!). Consider ordering the book. It's for a good cause and was made with lots of love and good intentions. Or just reblog and spread the word? Please?
And Mom, if you find my tumblr through this post... it was still worth it. Please click away, I post really embarrassingly awkward things here.
