Janice had only wanted to reschedule her appointment when she heard a quiet noise that felt as though it was genuinely going to break her heart. She saw the good doctor and her face fell. The Yeoman wasn't sure what to do. Should she wake him up, she wondered. "Doct-" she stopped herself from using his title and softly whispered, "Leonard?" Still not sure if actually attempting to wake him was a sound idea or not, Janice settled for running a hand over his hair, hoping to comfort the man.

Leonard was pulled from his nightmare by the gentle stroke of a hand through his hair. Comforted by the touch, he sighed, expelling his sorrow along with the air from his lungs. He suddenly became aware of the hard surface beneath his forehead and remembered he had fallen asleep at his desk. Wiping his eyes, he sat up quickly and turned around, embarrassed to be found in such a state. 

When he saw Janice standing there, the compassion clear on her face, he felt his embarrassment slowly ebb away. “Janice,” he said, softly, shutting his eyes. “Thank you.”

Envy & Greed (Am I entitled to two, IDEK)

Envy: a headcanon about your character's secret desires and jealousies

Occasionally, Sulu finds himself envying the rest of the senior crew for... well, for being geniuses in one way or another, really. They've all pulled off miracles or near impossible feats at one point or another. Sure, Sulu's good at what he does, but he feels that everyone else is in a different class than he is.

He wasn't even supposed to be the helmsman of the Enterprise originally, after all -- he was just the replacement. Hell, he'd almost botched that, considering the very first thing he'd done was make a mistake.

And while he's usually pretty good at ignoring that envy, but he hasn't succeeded in making it go away completely. It'll pop at random times, like sometimes when he hears one of those external inertial dampener jokes, which he's more or less gotten used to these days. 

And he knows that that's the reason why he sometimes puts some distance between himself and the rest of the senior crew, but he's not quite sure what to do about that yet.

Greed: a headcanon about something your character hordes or collects

Sulu collects knives. Which may sound morbid, but there is an actual practical reason behind the practice. Sulu's secondary specialty is in close combat and martial arts, which is why he has special permission to carry his retractable sword, despite it not being Starfleet issued.

Sulu keeps concealed knives on his person during away missions for the same reason. Phasers could be great weapons, but they were fairly useless when it came to close range combat. There was his sword, of course, but sometimes that was even a little too much. so he kept knives for various purposes, and it's gotten the away team out of a bind more than a few times -- sometimes literally.
