I'm eyeballing a lot of things on your WIP list, honestly - but especially the Izou Gunplay and Modern AU - Marco+Thatch 😇

"Modern AU Marco+Thatch" was inspired entirely by this fanart I saw of Marco and Thatch with faces full of piercings. (I cannot for the life of me find the fanart, or I'd share it.) You're going to meet them at a punk rock club (along with some other WB crew) and then get invited back to their place. It's all outlines right now, so there's no excerpts I can share. What I can tell you is after the other crewmates go home, you are sitting on the couch between Marco and Thatch, and they lean over you to kiss. You stare a little too obviously, and Marco catches it and slyly asks if you're jealous, yoi? Do you want a kiss too? And it escalates from there.

"Izou Gunplay" is self explanatory. I need to finish an outline for this one, because I started writing without one which always leads to me getting stuck, but here's a snippet for your enjoyment:

[Izou grabs you by the back of the neck and shoves your face into the mattress, increasing the strength behind his thrusts. You moan into the sheets, gripping them so hard your knuckles turn white, bracing against his brutal pace. 

There was little better than letting Izo indulge in his dominant side. The rough treatment was often enough to get you past your usual struggles to reach orgasm. But when it wasn’t, it left you being edged, and while that was good when you were in the mood for it, you were pent up and wanting to finish now. Abd when Izou was giving it to you this good, there was only one thing that could make it better.

“Izou,” you moan into the sheets. “Izou, the gun.”

His pace ebbs, switching from relentless pistoning to slow, deep taps almost against your cervix. He lets up the pressure on your neck. “Are you sure?”

“I need it. Please, Izou?”

You’re surprised how easily he concedes this time, given how he was vehemently opposed to the act in the beginning.]

No but how do I choose between Accidental Ornithology, Family Ties 2 and greedily wanting more on the Thatch arranged marriage?

I can give highlights of all three.

The arranged Marriage for Thatch is going to take place in the same AU as Some Direction. It's a different take on it, a lot darker than the Zoro x Reader, but still fluffy and steamy enough.

Family Ties 2 picks up after Family Ties, (my debut x reader story and currently my only completed Doflamingo multi-chapter) - I was originally just going to do a couple Post-Story one-shots for it, but ended up with an idea that ties off the Gild sub-story that's in there, and decided to go with a full on second book.

Accidental Ornithology is a modern AU Marco x Reader story. I'm honestly not entire sure what I'm going to do with it, but I have a couple chapters done, so I'll share an excerpt.

“Handsome drink for a handsome guy?” You ask, setting an Old Fashioned down in front of the blonde leaning against your bar.

He smiles, turning his attention away from the room and toward you. “Now what have done to deser—!” His eyes go wide with recognition for a split second, but then his composure returns.

You smile. “Oh good, you do recognize me. That certainly makes it easier to show my appreciation.”

A crooked smile crosses his face before he looks down at the offered drink. “An Old Fashioned, huh? What an interesting choice, yoi.”

He picks up the drink and takes a sip as you grin. “A fitting drink for an old.” You pause catching the blue eyes that flit over to yours before continuing. “Fashioned fella like you.”

You grin, wiping the bar top as he sets the drink down.

“It’s good.”

“Damn right it is,” you grunt. “I’m the best bartender in this dump.”

“Call my place a dump again,” came a grumbled reply from the kitchen. “And you’ll be crying all the way back to Big Mom.” Sanji gives you a disproving glare.

18- Write about how each member of your ship smells. 

Heat - smells like tobacco and vanilla, which doesn't sound like it should go together but it does. It's a softer but still "masculine" scent that has a little sweetness and probably has the side effect of me burrowing my face in to get a whiff after a shower.

Killer - often smells like what he's been cooking, in all fairness, which is a tasty thing but because I have tobacco and vanilla on one side and I like the scent of patchouli I'm sure I self servingly was like here I have gifted you new body wash, let me drift between you in wonderful scents and play with the hair blanket I have been gifted.

Bonus:

Kid - metal and oil, mostly and something that's like... leather?

Wire - I'm not versed enough to pick out all the notes and I feel like he actually swaps it around but it's still in that warm and spicy family.

As for me:

I probably smell like whoever's body wash I've stolen 😇 (Or something sweet, bc there's a lot of the warm and spicy smells I love around me, so now I get to be the one who smells like mango etc)

[As a sidenote - for anyone who sees the username and has a "what about" moment - Ace smells like the (his) lush bath bomb from the lushxOP collab in my mind from now on bc damn did that thing smell delicious]

One of my past jobs nearly ruined my sense of smell, but it still works. (My dad made me a candle for Christmas, and I've been enjoying it), but it's hard for me to discern subtle scents. but I still love head canons like this and I love just Everything about how well thought out all these are.

Hmmm...

Marco smells very faintly of pineapple, but more than that I think there's a rich honey smell, and a kind of aged-spirits sort of musk too. It's rich, but not cloying, and not offensively sweet. The salty sea air seems to cling to him a little too, and maybe that cuts the edge of sweetness, and the soft sent of oak or maple.

It's uniquely him, but overall it's subtle, kind of understated like the way he manages to watch you without being caught.

Thatch... smells like cooking oil and frosting. He manages to smell savory and sweet at the same time, and the only thing that shifts it is how much ale he's managed to get his hands on. Even then he never reeks of alcohol, but the dry scent of hops and spices bring out the savory scents more, and maybe you lick your lips less in hunger and more in curiosity.

Reading your response about Leatherbound - I am amused that we're both like "yes arranged Kid marriage that he wants no part of bc arranged marriage" and yet despite that at the core, they're going to be so different. (That one's not even on my WIP list yet because it doesn't have a folder, it's just on my "bingo board")

That's such a fun part of fics with similar core ideas honestly, just how different they can be despite having that common thread. I feel like you could get a group of people and be like "here's the core idea" and end up with a dozen totally different works.

Oh Absolutely!

The soul of a story is in the details. It's in the different ways you can describe emotions, in motions, in how even with the same author you may never see a kiss described exactly the same way twice. Texture, emotion, scent, need, perspective - only one thing needs be different and the entire tone can change.

Even if you have "Yandere Kid Pirates in Canon Universe" - there's dozens of ways to write. Never mind the differences between x reader and x OC possibilities, but canon x canon too, and all the variables within that. From the most deliciously sweet story to the most nail bitingly terrifying one.

Endings you survive, and endings that you don't. Words and moments and transitions from one to the next.

I could read a thousand vampire AUs and never find one like what I'm writing, and maybe I find a few that get close, and a few that make me think I could've done that in my own version, but I didn't - and it doesn't matter how similar two stories are, as long as both are written from the heart of the respective author they will be different.

And I love it.

I hate "there's no original ideas" as some kind of negative. There's a dozen different version of Treasure Island, and Treasure Island probably wasn't even the first. Same with Cinderella, etc. You can distill any story down into something that's "been done before", but you can't lay all the flaws and pleasures of that story over top another and match them up.

That's the pleasure. That's the joy. That's the sheer delight that drives creation.

And the only thing, in my opinion, that tops it, is writing something and having someone read it and then reach out to me and say:

"This inspired me, and this is what I did because of it."
