Sri Lanka Day 8 - Yala National Park is a nature reserve known for its leapards but they are very difficult to spot as the park encompasses over 130,000 hectares of land. Our safari the previous night turned up spotted deer, water buffalo, pecocks, land monitors, boars, elephants, monkies, butterflies, and lots and lots of birds but no leapards. Not wanting to give up so easily we decided to try again and scheduled a second trek for 5am. Things were not looking good but just before we had to turn back we came across another group that had spotted a leapard in a tree. By the time we got there the leapard had already climb down and was no where to be seen. Thankfully our guide was excellent and he was able to pick up some soft roaring which told him that the leapard was likely just resting under the tree. We settled in to wait and after 30min our patience was rewarded as there were actually two leapards. Well worth the wait! #theadventurists #rickshawinsrilanka (at Yala National Park, Sri Lanka)
