These apple fritter donuts are a delightful twist on the classic apple fritters from The Apple Barn in Sevierville, Tennessee. They are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with apple goodness. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg. 2/3 cup milk. 2 large eggs. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 2 cups peeled and diced apples about 2 medium apples. Oil for frying. Powdered sugar for dusting. Caramel sauce for drizzling optional.
Instructions: Mix together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Mix the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Mixing until just combined, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Add the diced apples and fold. Preheat the oil to 350F 175C in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot. Spoonfuls of the apple fritter batter should be dropped into the heated oil and cooked for two to three minutes on each side, or until golden brown. After taking the apple fritters out of the oil, pat dry with paper towels. While the fritters are still warm, dust them with powdered sugar. Drizzle with caramel sauce for an added taste treat. Enjoy the warm apple fritter doughnuts after serving!
