Becoming Someone Else- The Art Assignment

Isabelle here. I watched the original art assignment video “Becoming Someone Else” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmNKc4-zLOA when it was posted 3 months ago and was waiting until now to post my assignment (I was blown away by the fact that John posted his video about this today). 

Over the weekend, after spending over half my life with glasses, I got laser eye surgery (note the inclusion of the second selfie, moments before the surgery, I liked the idea of taking a photo as close to transition as possible). I got the surgery because I never quite felt like myself with my glasses. The idea that changing one physical attribute enables you to become someone else is fascinating to me. 

I don’t know what this will change about me, how people will perceive me, etc. Will my new found confidence translate into people taking me more seriously, or did my glasses give me some kind of pseudo intellectual credibility? Or do my glasses have absolutely no influence on anyone other than myself? Who do we change ourselves for, and to what end? What are the implications of permanent changes to the self? These are the questions this assignment has provoked for me.
