THIS!!! THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! I feel like I gotta draw a line somewhere about what I’m comfortable watching or listening to, but where the hell do you draw it. Do I just draw the line at sexual abuse like Woody Allen or Roman Polanski and let Hitchcock and Jeffory Tambor slide? Every time a Beatles song comes on, I dig it but in my head part of me is always thinking about how much I fucking can’t stand John Lennon. I just can’t keep up.
YES I TOTES AGREE but listen
part of the personal philosophy about celebrities i’ve had to come to is basically: how am i supporting you by enjoying your work
woody allen is a disgusting creep and i don’t want to contribute a dime to him by buying tickets to his movies, which is admittedly very easy because i don’t like his movies anyway, and if enough people stop paying to see his movies, he’ll be forced to fuck off and stop making them (theoretically anyway)
john lennon, sadly, was a creep too, but: 1) the bastard is dead, 2) the lennon estate does not own the beatles catalog, 3) the radio is playing that song whether you change the station or not
so what are you contributing to a dead wife beater by listening to a free banger? nothing, you aren’t retroactively sticking it to him by pretending the beatles aren’t good and refusing to listen to albums you already own, i assure you that wherever he is now he does not care whether you listen to them or not
it’s okay to draw your own line, it’s perfectly possible to say “this dude was a fucking asshole and i hate him” and turn up the radio cause we’ve all got such limited time on this rock in space
