The Ascension Game || Buffy & Faith
It didn't matter what city you were in, whether it was populous or a backwater idiot spawning ground, almost all of the Hunter dives Faith found herself in were pretty much the same. Familiar. A bar, pool tables, dart boards and a juke box.
Add to that a tender or waitress packing salt rounds and it was all a demon hunting hick wanted out of paradise. The same faces over and over, mostly men in jeans and tattered flannel, baseball caps and cowboy hats. She recognized them, didn't know their names and they didn't seem to know hers, either, but they steered clear and she did the same. No use kicking that hornet's nest until she had to.
Three beers into her weekend, sitting at a table near the juke box, penciling seemingly random words into a crossword puzzle. It had about as much of Faith's attention as anything did these days, but it seemed to be entertaining her. She didn't look up at whoever was casting the shadow over her puzzle, "You're in my light."
