Actually all this tornado talk gives me a question. Does Oklahoma insurance companies actually insure for tornado damage?
Here in Australia places like Queensland and NSW got their flooding insurance removed from house insurance if you bought a house in a flood risk area, bc there where so many catastrophic floods in the past few years (thanks climate change).
I was wondering if it's the same case in Oklahoma if you're in a high tornado risk area?
We cover Tornado damage under comprehensive, I don’t know of any company that excludes it. Flood insurance is similar to how it is in NSW - in the states. It’s federally backed and highly dependent on your area if it’s truly available or not.
The thing about tornadoes is that they have a relatively small unpredictable track, so even if you live in a place prone to them you may never actually see one in person, they’re not as all encompassing as floods are. The area that got hit this week has never, in recorded history, had a tornado like that and likely won’t again.
I have lived here my whole life and didn’t see one in person until I was 23. I haven’t seen another in person since. I just see a lot of the aftermath because of my job.
