Seeding Szn

The Cold Moon has passed and the sun is visiting for longer each day. I'm in a place of recovering from this winter. It has been long, tiring, and dark. I miss a lot of things these days: my family, my boyfriend, my bike... And I'm thinking about how an idea becomes tangible. Something to miss.

When does a family come together? How can love grow between distance and time? How does freedom feel in my bones? I'm amazed by the sheer amount of audacity it requires to keep hope alive, to believe in life, and to let time grow.

I'm excited for the seeds I'm tucking into the soil: pawpaw, echinacea, wild philly seeds, and so much more. Seedling pics coming soon (fingers crossed)!

And the big dreams for my artistic practice -- of creating a playspace, a celebration, a ritual. I am seeding them right now with intention and have so many questions:

- how does an artistic team come together?

- how can trust and respect grow in the pre, during, and after of a project?

- how does success feel in art?

Im amazed by the audacity it takes to be an artist in any capacity.

All right everyone! We have a poll up so we can get to voting on a show that we can perform! You can vote a MAXIMUM of three times (that means voting once every day for three days) and we narrowed it down so everyone isn't voting for their favorite pick. But please, I urge you to vote ASAP so I can get a feel for what show we may be picking. Once we pick one, I can't WAIT to show you what is in store for this group! Congratulations, everyone! You are now formally commenced into the Big River Theater's professional company of the 2014-2015 season! That is, if you've introduced yourself in all of your glory.

The people on this list still have a lot to prove. There are consequences involved, so in order to commence yourself into the company, you must write a self para about your character cleaning and maintain the stage. That's right, top to bottom. Striking leftover sets, removing scuff marks, fixing the legs, reweighting battens, etc. You have to put in the work! Once you have done this, you may move on to the next task.

Everyone else, nice job! There are some fun things in store, and it will really prove your skills and talents, just before we decide on a show and get rolling for good! The following are what you have to do for this fun week:

Actors:

Send the main an ask, and you will receive a certain emotion. You will have to unwaveringly portray that emotion for a week. It will have to engulf everything you do. Periodically, you will be receiving asks, and your character will have to react in that emotion, just to prove that you are completing the task right.

Crew:

All of you must send an ask to the main, and you and your fellow crew members will be given a certain show (you will be given the same show). You will have to take a week to work together to create a set piece/ground plan for that show. You must interact with the others, even if they are not a crew member ("Hey, can you help me move this/sketch this?") because you guys can't do it on your own! Once the week is through, you must all submit a photo to the main of your set piece (just use Google!).

Orchestra:

Send an ask to the main and you will be given an emotion. You must compose a piece based on that emotion. Ask for opinions and help from other members ("Hey, do you like how this sounds?") Halfway through the week, you will get a message from the main, asking to explain your progress so far. Answer this publically. At the end of the week, you are going to be asked to send in your composition (use YouTube to find someone else's composition).
