The sounds were faint as they laid there in the dimly lit room of a house they were just squatting in for the time being until Viserys could find another ally. He said they were everywhere, but the deeper into Essos they went the less allies they found. It was getting harder on the both of them as the food became even more scarce due to lack of coin even after Viserys sold their mother’s crown. It seemed to have broken his spirits.
The proof of how broken her brother truly was only came at night when he thought she was sleeping. The weight of the world crashing down on the teen when no one was looking when he didn’t need to keep a strong face for his little sister and lie to her that everything was going to be fine. The sounds of the worried boy he really was came to her ears then. This wasn’t the first time she heard him crying, but it was the first time she couldn’t sleep because of it.
Slowly the little dragon sat up from her place on the bed and loved over at Viserys silently. He hadn’t noticed that she was awake just yet. Carefully she placed a hand on his shoulder and tilted her head to the side. “Viserys?” Instantly her brother’s body tensed up and he turned to look at her. “I thought you were asleep.” He said trying not to be angry just yet. “I couldn’t stay asleep.”
"Go to sleep, Daenerys." His voice was sharp as if warning her to continue to be awake would anger him. "But I can’t sleep." She whined wanting to be close to her brother right now. "You’re going to wake the dragon." He warned one more time. "Why were you crying Viserys?" "It’s none of your business. Go to sleep." "But." "I said to go to sleep Daenerys." "Why were you crying?" She pried again. "I said GO TO SLEEP!" With that he lashed out and struck her across the face.
The little girl was knocked out of the bed and to the floor the right side of her face throbbing with pain and tears stung her eyes. “Viserys.” She whimpered holding her face. “NOW LOOK AT WHAT YOU’VE MADE ME DO!” He was angry and not just at her, but the world. Dany stayed there in the floor watching him as he gave a speech about waking the dragon and angering him and some other stuff she didn’t catch it all over her own crying. Her skin bruised quickly and soon there was a dark bruise around her eye.
When Viserys calmed and went to sleep Dany crawled up into the bed quietly and laid next to him. Her brother had never hit her only threatened her with waking the dragon. She was in shock as she laid there with the covers pulled around her and she cried herself to sleep that night.
