visitor, stories, and folk! :'D

visitor: what creature visits your dreams most often?

(ooh this question gives me mild creeps) cats. not actual cats, though. a person that’s a cat really (in the way dreams do things), or a very tall cat with a cowboy hat and bowlegs named rider. <- that was one of my first nightmares.

stories: books you remember from your childhood?

there’s three that really stand out in my memory.

the phantom tollbooth - the book that taught me how to think, in a lot of ways. my problem solving skills and lifelong love of puns come from this book.

the wheel of time - not a particularly excellent book (although it was one of the first adult fantasy books I was introduced to), but I remember being 7 or so, packing up to move house, sitting in a flood of books and toys with the floor nowhere in sight, and my mom handing it to me with no preamble and saying she thinks I’d like it.

and a children’s encyclopedia, the “D” volume. I almost never read any of it, but a couple pages in, there was a two page spread of drawings of various dog breeds, which I loved to look at and categorize. I still remember a lot of weirder dog breeds just based on that spread.
