Ya’ll a few of my friends from school have started a project called the catcall collective. They’re on tumblr as @thecatcallcollective where they ask people to submit art, essays, poetry whatever as a way to raise awareness about the harmful effects of catcalling. Please check it out and even submit something. I think this is especially important for women of color (which one of the fabulous founders is) because of the racialized nature of catcalling that happens to us. This is a platform for our stories to be told.

It's windy. Very, very windy. My skirt flutters around me. "Hey baby", he calls. No one calls me baby. I duck my head. Walk faster. "How bout your skirt blows over here?" He drawls. I shoot him a look. Is this appealing to him? A teenage girl walking fast away down the street, fluttering in the wind? It's not appealing to me. I'm embarrassed of my skirt. My legs. My hight. I'm ashamed of the wind for making this happen. I turn the corner and smooth out my skirt. He has already forgotten me but I don't forget his eyes on my body, his words in my ears.
