Standing with one foot in the murky goth gloom of the mid-80s and one foot in the anthemic stadium rock of the era, the Chameleons UK never really broke big, but they became a beloved cult act in the process. They were the kind of band that had the ambition, confidence and ability to cover “Tomorrow Never Knows” and actually pull it off. Extra points for the group doing its own cover artwork, too. Apparently I saved the press sheet that came with it when I reviewed the album for my college paper low those many years ago.

Die Scorpions. Glaube, wenn dieses „gepfeife“ nicht gewesen wäre, fiel das Urteil vielleicht nicht ganz so harsch aus. Die Chameleons sind „Connaisseur-Indie“ aus den 80ern. Nie den ganz großen Erfolg. Aber geachtet und geschätzt. In etwa so wie „Aztec Camera“ oder „Echo and the Bunnymen“. Disclaimer: Was das hier ist? Nachdem ich 2018 diesen kleinen Kalender gekauft hatte, kam mir die Idee, diesen auch wirklich zu „nutzen“. Was ich dann in 2019 auch umsetzte. Außer jeden Tag drauf zu schauen, ein Kalenderblatt abzureißen, nahm ich mir vor, das jeweilige Album am gleichen Tag auch zu hören. Gleichzeitig schaue ich nach ob ich das Album in meiner Sammlung habe und wenn es mir gefällt, oder ich tatsächlich „schwerwiegende“ Lücken in meinem Regal entdecke, dann kauf‘ ich das Album nach.
