What do you like most about your own writing? - hmm personally i think it's my approach to gender and relationships? i tend to get tired of things really fast, so if i read enough of a trope i always want to find a way to like - either subvert it or write it in a way that feels fresh. so when it comes to ships (esp mlw) i try to find new ways of exploring like, complimentary relationships and divisions of strength? like im very bored of woman-centric fic that's just - this woman is physically strong and men respect her for that! so i like to find women who arent strong in that way, but still are respected/in positions of authority due to other kinds of strength

😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate? - dragging shit out? im very slow in my pacing and writing, so i tend to drag stuff out, add a lot of internal monologuing and shit (esp when im writing itachi). i think some people enjoy it but after a while i get the feeling theyre like ok bitch we get it move on now

🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to? - mikoto! i've had her as a side character in a lot of fics but i've never made her a main character. also technically ino but i have several ino wips, so that doesnt really count

💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work? - oh gee. im not 100% sure what this is asking? idk if this is a headcanon so much as a theory, but i always write fics like - itachi and karin are sort of a weird kind of starcrossed lovers? in the sense that in a universe where everything goes 'right,' they never even meet. they FIT together perfectly in the story, but things just interfere with it. so even in happy aus for them, i always keep that in the back of my mind and try to find like, something that either balances out whatever tragedy was averted, or make them work really fuckin hard for a happy ending.

⏰ Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally? - writing fic for sure. ive been trying to read more fic just to like... keep myself familiar with tropes and characters and stuff? and of course i immediately jump on anything with karin or itachi in it, but overall im very heavy on writing ? reading fic. i do a lot of nonfic reading tho

Her mother says this every time she leaves, but sometimes she’s lying. It’s annoying, because Karin can always feel when people are lying, but only when they know they’re lying.

When Karin’s mother says she’ll be back soon, she thinks she’s telling the truth, and there’s nothing to let Karin know the difference.

“And that just isn’t fair,” Karin complains, trying to fold a blanket that’s nearly three times her size. She tugs it down from the line and it drapes over her like a lampshade, muffling her voice when she repeats, “That just isn’t fair at all.”

So, Cherry, tell us about *your* WIP that you love the most. Why do you love it? What inspired it? Any interesting structure regarding the story you'd like to share?

thanks for the ask! but oh man - i love all of my babies haha so buckle up!

i do have one wip that just - something really went right when i started it, because it's just - so easy to write? so: it's a blank-period--ish fic but in an AU where Sasuke dies in the fight against Deidara, and Itachi returns to Konoha. It starts a few years after Sasuke dies, and bc of shenanigans, Itachi is living with Karin, though they aren't *together* per se. After some more shenanigans, he ends up as a single father, which is when he finally like - starts to work through all of his emotional baggage. it's endgame ItaKonan, though the ship isn't the main focus.

I think I love it because the ships take a backseat, so I can really build more on Itachi's relationships with other people and not have to worry about where it goes. As far as side characters go, this is probably one of my most ambitious fics? Since the main premise is Sasuke dying, there's a lot of focus on the rest of Team Seven and the rest of the K12, though it's still Itachi-centric.

This is actually one of my only fics where structure is a big deal, ironically, because the title comes from a favorite poem of mine, and the poem kinda lays out several important lessons? So each of those form the main sections of the story, and each section gets Itachi closer to completing his character arc. the damn thing is like 100 pages but who knows if ill ever finish it 😅

11. most bizarre idea for writing you’ve had?

OKAY. this one i actually love so much but its uhhh not super conventional but it makes me laugh and i think it would really work.

SO. there's the old testament story of judah and tamar which - it isn't a romance, but that's really the only quirk. basically judah marries tamar to one of his sons, his son dies, and he marries her off to the next one. this continues until there's only one son left and judah is like - hmmm i dont know if i wanna lose my last kid to this woman who is just short of cursed. so long story short she tricks him into sleeping with her, gets pregnant, then calls him out as the father of her twins when shes about to get stoned for adultery.

.... i kinda wanna do an itakarin au of that? like instead of his sons, itachi keeps marrying karin off to random single uchihas until there's only sasuke left, and itachi is like oh HELL no am i letting her marry my otouto. it wouldnt be a perfect adaptation bc i still want them to get together in the end, but i still love the premise.

yeah! this is from an au where itachi is an anbu guard and karin is adopted by minakushi. im still trying to figure out where i want to go with it from there 🤔

Checkov's The Cherry Orchard. Ok, I never really "got" Checkov, but now I think I'm on the train. The play reads as a farce, is actually tragic and I hate all these characters. The upper class and the class chasers are insufferable. Whining and unable to face reality and no resilience. I just want to slap them. Checkov wants us to want to slap them. They are all the victims of their own actions but there are only two characters that are even slightly introspective. I think it is also an incredibly timely play since the US is ready to just throw the whole 1% out right now and he wrote this during the descent of the bourgeoisie in Russia. The characters are so richly done, I can see why this has maintained its popularity. BUT if I was going to recommend something in this genre, I'd say "A Detective Calls" makes the point in a more emotional way.

1. What themes would you like to write about that you feel don’t get explored very often?

okay! so, to be honest, i think this has actually become a very popular theme more recently, but ive always enjoyed aftermath as a theme? especially as it pertains to side characters. so a lot of my stories will start AFTER the big action climax and will usually follow the fallout from that and how the POV characters navigate that. And usually like, I tend to gravitate towards the characters who either weren't really actively involved in the main event (karin, for example) or who were ancillary to the main characters (more of itachi, i think)

another theme that i really enjoy is non physical kinds of strength? like, strength of will, mental strength, emotional strength. i would say that personally i feel like these themes are common only when paired with physical strength? like the hero is usually a mix of both, but i prefer to write protagonists who arent physically strong but get by using other means. i also really like kicking itachis ass w his mysterious illness to make him a little less op

5. Would you rather write a happy ending that soothes the soul or a tragic ending that hurts the heart?

hehe definitely the former. i like opening with angst and then spending the rest of the story untangling it. im gonna sound like a broken record, but since karin and itachi are my go-tos for writing, angst is a little hard to avoid unless its a big au. i think karin got the 'bad' ending in canon (not badly written, but on the bittersweet to tragic scale), so i try to avoid putting her right back there in fanfic lol.

21.How do you come up with titles? Do you use placeholders or tend to change your titles while writing the first draft?

i would say maybe - 1/10 of my fics have easy titles. usually i pick a poem or something that i like that fits and ill stick with a line from that. for some ill try to incorporate the lines extensively, if i can, though some its more like - this single line says everything im saying here. other than those, i almost exclusively use placeholders until i nail down a good one.

24. Do you let your story evolve as you write or do you meticulously plan everything prior to writing the first draft?

I really wish i could plan things out but i cant. sometimes for a fic ill let the idea simmer and then sketch out something rough? like ill start writing the first scene and then start blocking out the rest of the fic for how i want the plot to progress. usually most of these marks will stay in, but about halfway through the process i usually start looking at themes to incorporate (i can either start with a theme or a plot but not both) and then add scenes to nail it down better. my process is hell and there's a reason im super slow!
