36. Did I dream of the great black-winged thing again?
To answer with a tangent, when I was a kid I remember being outside at twilight and seeing the sky fill up with crows. It was in the winter, because the winter was when the trees near my house filled with them. The entire sky seemed to be black wings. It was gone in a second. I don’t think anyone else saw it.
Which is to say, I haven’t dreamed of it in a while, but I’m sure it will come back.

25. how do you defeat writer’s block?
don’t quit writing. force yourself to write, even if it’s crap. especially if it’s crap. because you can only get better and you can’t get worse.

how presumptuous of you to assume i actually write about my own ocs :P
that said, probably the last oc of any import i actually wrote about would be Lux, my dear Twi’lek invented for my campaign podcast fic.
P
1. what is their best personality trait?
Stubbornness. Lux clings to life despite having already given up hope because he’s just too stubborn to lay down and die. He makes friends by deciding to be friends with someone and just refusing to leave them alone until they like him.
2. what is their worst personality trait?
Poor judgment. He often annoys people with his tone-deafness in what he chooses to joke about, and his bad decision making is took him away from a calm, safe life with his family and eventually landed him as a prisoner of a bunch of asshole bounty hunters.
3. what of their personality do others love?
His charisma. Before being kidnapped by bounty hunters and forced into gladiatorial combat, Lux was the host of an underground radio show. He manages to survive the aforementioned gladiatorial combat through his sheer charm, and endears himself to nearly every one of the motley crew of other prisoners.
4. what of their personality do others envy?
Probably his ability to stay detached. When bad things happen, Lux doesn’t let it affect him (at least now where other people can see). His constant good cheer (or at least constant sarcasm) in the face of certain doom is just as enviable as it is annoying to the other people stuck in the same situation.
5. do they hate anything about their personality/about other’s personalities?
He hates his own pessimism. While he maintains a cheerful facade, Lux resigned himself to his own death the moment he was kidnapped, and he hates himself for giving up.
T
1. are they honest?
Lux would probably say yes - after all, his radio show was entirely about spying on other ships and revealing the secrets of their crew. He doesn’t usually lie outright, and tends more towards blunt truth than nice lies. However, while it’s not entirely outright lying, he’s very good at concealing his true feelings.
2. can they tell if someone is lying?
Not particularly well, unless he’s already suspicious and watching closely.
3. is it obvious when they’re lying?
Nah. Lux doesn’t lie often, but when he does he’s very good at it - unless he’s purposefully not trying very hard to hide it.
4. have they lied about anything they regret lying about?
No; Lux doesn’t lie about important things.
5. have they told truths that have been spread against their will?
Lux spreads things entirely on purpose. Aside from things he wants spread, though, he lived a mostly solitary life and there weren’t exactly many chances for things about him to spread against his will.

1. how old were you when you created them?
20, it was last summer.
2. what inspired you to create them?
I needed a cast of NPCs for the fic but didn’t have anything specific in mind, so I started playing around in a star wars doll maker online (it’s also possible I was already playing around in the star wars doll maker and then remember I needed to make NPCs. Lol). I made an electric blue twi’lek with neon pink tattoos, and immediately knew I needed him to be real.
3. were they different when they were first created?
Hm. He was less sad on the inside, I think. He also had a prosthetic leg that I frankly just forgot about when I actually started writing the fic, and he wasn’t originally a radio host; I think I’d envisioned something more Han Solo-ish. He also got a robot buddy much later on, SH-9R aka “Shiner,” a little flying droid that in my head just looks like Wheatley from Portal 2 that helped him hack into other ships’ communication systems.
4. do you enjoy writing them more than other characters?
I love writing Lux, he’s probably my favorite thing to come out of Killers & Survivors, which has been a very rewarding experience overall (I promise I’ll finish it... eventually). It’s hard to say if I like writing for him more than other OCs because I actually write about very few of my OCs, but I do love writing him.
5. what’s your favorite thing about them?
His snark. His showmanship. Writing Lux’s dialogue is very fun.

The OC I most recently wrote about was Riyu from the novel I’m working on, so I’ll do her!
A: Aptitude1. what are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?
For Riyu, this is an interesting question, because their “natural” abilities are affected by the fact that they’re the channel for an ancient god. Riyu naturally is incredibly good at spatial and temporal reasoning--the chance she’ll ever get lost is slim-to-none--and also has abilities that let her look backward and forward in time, although she almost never uses those. 2. what activities have they participated in?
Riyu is a member of a group called the Hidden Knives, who are essentially governmental spec ops units who were trained from childhood. Didn’t give her a lot of time to do much else. 3. what abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?
While Riyu’s supernatural abilities are innate, her more useful fighting abilities are all things she has worked for through her years in the Hidden Knives. The form of fighting they’re taught is very much like martial arts, focusing a lot on using momentum and weight in your favor and against your opponent, but it also includes weapon-based fighting.4. what things are they bad at?
Talking to people, in particular pretty girls. Growing up in a heavily regulated environment where all social interaction was within strict protocol rules (she refers to her own father only as “Instructor”) left her with very few interpersonal skills, and she has trouble navigating social situations on her own unless she knows some sort of “rules” she can follow. 5. what is their most impressive talent?
Riyu’s most impressive talent is probably their fighting ability. Unlike the magic they can do, they had to work for this, and are good enough to be one of the top Hidden Knives at the time of the story. In a fair fight, there are few people who can stand up to Riyu (unless they have some advantage she cannot plan for).
G: Gorgeous1. what is their most attractive external feature?
Riyu’s most attractive external feature is also their most off-putting one, depending on who is looking at them. As a side effect of being an Avatar, their eyes are a shifting orange-gold in color, which some people find captivating and other people find deeply unnerving. It is also the only clear sign they’re not a normal person. 2. what is the most attractive part of their personality?
Her passion. Riyu is very dedicated to what she believes is right, and when she has found a cause she sticks to it--but is not too stubborn to examine her own beliefs. Hypocrisy is something that she is discomfited by, in others and in herself. Despite her social awkwardness, she’s very good at inspiring other people, if only through her actions. 3. what benefits come with being their friend?
First of all, once you are Riyu’s friend it is very hard to lose that status unless you do something horrible. Riyu is loyal to a fault. Additionally, if you’re ever in trouble, you have a very powerful ally on your side who has, essentially, a government pardon in advance for any fight they get into. 4. what parts of them do they like and dislike?
Riyu likes her fighting ability and her rigorous self-examination, even if she sometimes hates the latter part of herself--it means she very rarely can let herself rest or be complacent. She dislikes how awkward she is around other people, and the fact that she’s a bit of a bleeding heart--she cares a lot about people around her, and has had it drummed into her that this is a weakness. 5. what parts of others do they envy?
For people around her, she envies Hema’s easy confidence with people and the way he gains admirers, and she envies Niné‘s sense of purpose and direction--Niné always seems to know what she’s supposed to be, and in comparison Riyu feels very lost.
N: Never Have I Ever1. what would they never do?
Hm. That’s hard, because Riyu has essentially been raised to do whatever her job asks of her. However, if she is convinced that something will harm innocent people, she will not do it and will try to find a way to bend regulations; in order to get her to, she needs to be convinced that the people are not, in fact, innocent. She also would never let herself get away with hypocrisy for long. In the moment, she might rationalize it, but it will eat at her until she addresses it. 2. what have they never done that they want to do?
She’s never been able to just travel the world without a position or agenda, which is something she wants to do--she has a strong case of wanderlust. 3. is there anything they absolutely can’t believe people do?
She’s been exposed to a lot of the worse sides of people, if only in that she’s been lectured on why she shouldn’t do them. While she might not understand the reasons, she isn’t so much of an idealist about people that she can’t believe people would do horrible things.
Well, she can’t believe anyone would voluntarily go into the ocean, but that’s fair, as in this world getting near the ocean is, essentially, suicidal in a very drawn-out and painful manner. There are Things in the water and they’re not friendly. 4. what is the most embarrassing thing they’ve done?
Hm. Probably as a child they talked back to the Speakers--the religious leaders who organize the Hidden Knives--and started asking why they said/believed things. It was mortifying all around because a) Riyu is the Avatar of their god, so is essentially the last person you want questioning your religious rhetoric and b) the hidden knives are supposed to listen and obey, not talk back. 5. have they done anything they thought they’d never do?
By the end of book one, they will have left the Hidden Knives and the Church of the Sun, which they definitely would not expect at the beginning of the book.
